Overall this conference was an amazing experience! I learned more about different connections within migration and our global society than I think I would have ever learned just on my own. Thank you to all the presenters and for all their hard work! @UWJSIS
Another presentation was on Chifa restaurants in Peru and how/why it was created. I especially loved this one b/c I didn’t expect migration to be so intertwined with the culinary world but now it seems so obvious. It’s a whole new aspect of migration that has peaked my interest
The next talk I heard was on Chinese brotherhood organizations in both China and the US. While this whole topic was new to me, hearing about all the intricacies within these “secret societies” and their blends with surrounding cultures was incredibly interesting to hear @UWJSIS
I particularly found his highlight on narrative to be interesting - the focus on the difference b/t reading the accounts and analyzing them to get at causality for migration patterns was interesting to hear & made me think more about discovering the hidden truths in them @UWJSIS
The first talk I got to hear was given by my prof Anand Yang. I have learned about his works from his class I’ve been taking, but today’s presentation offered a deeper look into specifics, like
his analysis of different autobiographies and biographies in order to shape the truth
Today I had the privilege of attended part of the “Translation of Migration” conference held by @UWJSIS. After attending I have learned new things about migration and it’s consequences and broader my knowledge on aspects of migration I was already familiar with.
@annekirstinerk I’d also suggest investing in a sewing machine! Mine’s a small one that I got for around $30 off of Amazon and even thought I’m very new to sewing, it was easy to figure out and pick up!
@annekirstinerk Hi @annekirstinerk ! I would say the biggest source I get my inspiration from for revamping my old clothing comes from pinterest! Usually I will see a piece on their I’d love to have and realize that I have lots of spare fabric from an old t-shirt of mine that I can use!
