Northern front after day 1

Amid the initial HTS-led offensive, Syrian government forces apparently withdrew to a prepared defensive line on the northern gates of Aleppo.

By the evening of the first day, reports began coming in that Bashnatrah and Jamiyat al-Hadi had been taken.

Reports now coming in about the fall of the SAA positions at Yaqid al-Adas and Babis. HTS-led forces have thus taken control of all the hills overlooking the Anadan plain and now stand before urbanized areas such as Anadan and Kafr Hamra, the northern suburbs of Aleppo.

@ZarrarK51121749 The areas which were captured yesterday are rather hilly terrain. They now control the heights except for one last chain of hills held by SAA/YPG. If they continue advancing in this direction, the areas that lie ahead are flatter and have been refered to as the "Anadan Plain".

Note: I have high confidence in the position of every placename on the map. I will continue research to determine lesser-known and obscure places as the southern part of the new front contains more of the small neighborhoods, housing developments, and unmarked "strategic hills"

Where is the al-Zaatari factory [معمل الزعتري] of western Aleppo which has been captured by HTS-led forces?

It is located west of Urum al-Kubra and had served as a front line position for the Syrian Arab Army since 2020.

Fighting is now said to be taking place in Urum al-Kubra.

Hayr Darkal has never appeared on maps and was rarely mentioned online. I geolocated the village based on combat footage from 2022.

The first screenshot depicts the destruction of a water tower, whose exact coordinates are 36.2396 N, 36.9045 E

Where is the location of "Hayr Darkal" [حير دركل] or [حيردركل] which has been captured by HTS-led forces?

It is adjacent to the village of Bala and south of a Turkish military position. The SAA garrisoned Hayr Darkal since 2020. HTS-led forces have since advanced about 8km east.

2021 was Syria's most peaceful year in the past decade. There were only two real instances of sustained combat: the battles between the NDF and Kurdish police forces in al-Qamishli, and the conflict between HTS and the Jund Allah organisation in Idlib.
