(he/him) Computer/electrical engineer for 30+ years. 3D content developer in @Blender, @UnrealEngine, @Unity3D.
Proudly Progressive. Good without a god.
"Magic Markers", an editor extension for @unity3d that makes invisible GameObjects visible/selectable in the editor and (optionally) at runtime, has been submitted to the @AssetStore. Forum thread: https://t.co/8xsMqVAktR Trailer: https://t.co/fyotskfOP2
@_mamoniem@wojtsterna I always cringe when I see tutorials dividing by a constant when they could multiply by its reciprocal (e.g., /10.0 instead of *0.1). Probably the compiler optimizes it out, but why promote bad habits? Sometimes division can be refactored from pixel to vertex functions, too.
I'm curious what others in the 3D creative community are planning with respect to this platform, its semi-new overlord, and its upcoming ToS changes allowing LLM harvesting of our creative content shared here.
Is it time to say, "Exeunt omnes"?
For about two months I've been digging into handheld AR in #UnrealEngine, having never done any kind of XR dev before. I'm finding I enjoy it a lot more than I ever thought I might, but debugging on mobile devices is...not my favorite pastime.
@anpaure I recently spent 6 hours debugging Python code that a non-coder "wrote" in 5 hours (actually prompt crafting time for GPT). I had to rewrite about 90% to fix completely broken flow. AI is an amazing tool, but a Hasselblad in the hands of a novice doesn't make them Ansel Adams.
@MELANIATRUMP Damn, for that high price I would think those gold-plated trinkets would at least be stamped on both sides. Holiday ornaments hung from tree branches don't always face the same direction. Hard pass, Your Highness.
@WagaduChronicle Wishlisted. I love the fact that this is a PvE-focused online coop game. PvP is fine for those who enjoy it, but for me it's nothing but stress. I love a challenging battle in a game, but I want it to be against NPCs and not other humans. Also, you had me at "building villages."
@nealeferguson@dez_blanchfield I have an angle grinder. I have access to our data center. Notwithstanding that, I think it best that we _not_ try reproducing this as a test of our DR.
@KenneyNL The prompt:
/imagine Cover art for "Fallout Los Angeles" TV series set in Hollywood, but blending the Cold War advertising style of the Bethesda video games with the cheap fakery of a behemoth corporation too stingy to pay an actual artist.
The results:
@Roll_Initiative@KenneyNL I wouldn't say it's "nothing." It is the similarly-colored background object that makes the word "True" difficult to read. This looks like the work of Midjourney to my non-artist eye.
Juliani says he was treated "just like the criminals I prosecute."
That fact is the easily the most sensible and logical thing the universe has shown me today.
The whole world seems to be abuzz about the promise and peril of artificial intelligence, but that's only half of the story. Has anyone bothered to consider the number of MAGA zombies who will be displaced when someone invents artificial stupidity?
@mhdksafa Started with very little, achieved phenomenal success through hard work, perseverance, and dedication. Earned a fortune through personal effort, teamwork, and wise investment, and uses it philanthropically. They ought to be praising his personification of the "American Dream."
Transit station review ranting about "terrible security":
"The big black dude in vest...shouldn't be allowed outside a cell let alone given weapons to protect people."
The "dude" was a police officer in body armor. The "security problem" is the racist reviewer, not the cop!
@ChrisR3tro I don't remember *all* of those designations, but I know which ones I wouldn't pick: Any that have SX in their name are only half-width bus. Hard pass!
@overshia Ticks drop Tick Blood, from which you can make Blood Packs, from which you can make Stimpaks. Not a big deal later in the game, but at low levels these can save your life...if you don't die collecting the Tick Blood. :)
