syscourse acc || i'm not anti-endogenic, i just hate bad arguments and i'm here to correct the harmful misinformation on DID/OSDD, the DSM, ISSTD + psychology
@Risu_System@ponderouswhims i've explained in depth why it's transphobic, so you should give me the same courtesy other than just "transmeds are bad and sysmeds are too". yes, there are sysmeds that have been known to harass people. but comparing them to transmeds, who provided actual systemic abuse--
@ponderouswhims i don't entirely think that medicalism is a /bad/ thing. being anti psychology and anti recovery as a whole are bad things. fearmongering legitimate treatments for DID such as (final) fusion and integration are bad things. applying endogenic experiences to DID is a bad thing.
@ponderouswhims this isn't sysmedicalism, because they're not medicalizing endogeny, the medical model they're applying is incorrect and they're using it to try and define endogeny out of existence.
@ponderouswhims these terms are generally applied when a group of people is systemically oppressed and has a clear group of oppressors. in what way are endogenics systemically oppressed if they are not disordered, and most "pluralphobia" is applied to DIDOSDD (mentally ill) systems?
@ponderouswhims one is someone experiencing multiple people/alters in their head sharing their life with them. the other is who you are attracted to and/or your gender identity. the two are not comparable, and comparing them is disingenuous and inaccurate and offensive to both experiences.
@ponderouswhims that's not the only explanation i gave though? it was like a month or 2 ago so i can't entirely remember, but i'm pretty sure i said that comparing systems to the LGBT community is offensive. it's offensive because it's inaccurate to both experiences of both communities.
@ponderouswhims *you can't lump them under the same umbrella here because "sysmeds" aren't talking about medicalizing endos or "medicalizing all plurality", they're speaking strictly from the standpoint that DIDOSDD is already medical and the only form of plurality.
@ponderouswhims "anti-endo" isn't separate from "medicalizing plurality" but the thing is here is that DIDOSDD is already medicalized. you can't lump DIDOSDD under the same umbrella as endos here.* there's nothing *to* medicalize because it's already medical. so again, it doesn't make sense.
@ponderouswhims we ARE talking in circles. glad you recognized that and maybe you'll leave this thread alone because your initial response was left in like april and you just responded like 2 months later out of nowhere when i'd already forgotten about it lol.
@ponderouswhims also the people that get called "sysmed" are just anti-endo (or again say things endos disagree w/). i don't see how that's trying to medicalize all plurality if they straight up don't think that endogenic systems can exist. your argument is the one that makes no sense.
if you really don't *want* to be disordered and act like it's such a bad thing, i beg of you. think about why. because the answer 100% of the time has been ableism. #syscourse
@Candelaria_ycia the dysfunction criteria is there for pretty much every disorder in the DSM. it doesn't actually, genuinely mean anything, it's just there to state that only a disorder is actually a disorder. to separate things like caffeine addiction from poly-substance abuse.
@Candelaria_ycia to make a long story short: the dysfunction criteria is 1) circular and redundant and doesn't refer to any measurable level of dysfunction, 2) is there to separate normal from pathological (whether it works or not) and 3) is up to a clinician to identify as disordered or not.
@Candelaria_ycia the point is that most people here don't know the actual medical definition of dysfunction and don't realize that they could very well fit that criteria without knowing it because they assume the medical definition of dysfunction is the same as the social/casual one.
