When prominent industry figures look kids in the eye and tell them to distrust the very people God gave to protect and guide them, it crosses a dangerous line. This is a deliberate effort to separate children from the authority and protection of their parents.

​Scripture clearly establishes that parents—not outside influencers—are responsible for instructing and shielding their children. Anyone trying to break that bond is an immediate red flag.

Most people don’t realize that a Key to the City is one of the highest ceremonial honors a city can bestow. It has no legal authority, but it symbolizes respect, appreciation, and recognition for someone the city chooses to honor.

That’s why this stood out.

On September 26, 2025, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt presented Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass with the Key to the City of Oklahoma City during her visit to RIVERSPORT OKC ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games.

Karen Bass is the Democratic mayor of Los Angeles, one of the nation’s largest and most progressive cities. The two mayors were celebrating the partnership between Los Angeles and Oklahoma City as OKC prepares to host Olympic softball and canoe slalom events.

The presentation raises an interesting question.

What qualities or accomplishments should warrant one of Oklahoma City’s highest honors?

Was this simply an appropriate gesture recognizing cooperation between two cities? Or should the Key to the City be reserved for individuals whose contributions are more directly tied to Oklahoma City and its citizens?

Either way, the Key to the City is intended to honor someone.
