The trees also absorb the sound of the surrounding city, creating a quiet and contemplative space. Song birds live high in the branches of these trees, and the soft fluttering of their wings is ever-present. 2/2
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is among the most beautiful and moving memorials in Washington, DC. The names of fallen officers are etched in stone beneath a dense canopy of Little Leaf Linden Trees, which provide cool shade on the hottest of days. 1/2

In a bold swap engineered by a Black man and a white man working together, reckoning has come at last to Colfax, Louisiana, site of the Colfax Massacre in 1873. A new memorial replaces the racists dishonest historical marker that once stood. https://t.co/htlDf1FsDd
#RichardGlossip atty: “We are staring down an execution date for a guy that Okla. admits never received a fair trial. And (he) is innocent of the murder, & yet they’re going to go forward anyway. It is a staggering thought that they would do that.” https://t.co/Tz8EtTeKKX
Execution by lethal injection #Florida:
1 sedate (if it works)
2 paralyse (why?)
3 stop heart
What sort of person could contemplate doing this to *anyone let alone a brain damaged man?

Historically 1 in 10 people executed via the #deathpenalty have later been exonerated. Lowering the standard for imposing a death sentence is irresponsible and inhumane. https://t.co/EM1bPu3ih4
The defense team of Ann Finnell, Gonzalo (“Gonzo”) Andux, Beth Sammons and Rosalie Bolin secured a life verdict in Jacksonville today for defendant Eric Jackson.
Ann told the jurors in closing: “Mercy is not something that a person earns. It’s not something a person deserves. I am here to ask you for mercy for Eric Jackson. I ask you to let him live until God says he should die.”
Because of a lack of investment in Jackson, Mississippi, a majority Black city, there is little clean water. Neighboring towns with white residents don't have the same problem.
An effort must be made to rebuild Jackson's infrastructure. https://t.co/QPYA48yXK8
We would do well to heed Judge Newman’s descriptions of these brutal means of carrying out executions. https://t.co/bhHj4nCKtv via @slate#StopExecutions
#RichardRhodes wrote about #SolitaryConfinement: "To me it's the feeling of being buried alive, everyone knows but no one sees or cares...Isolation and confinement can't be described in any amount of words to those who have never lived it."
