The one element of private equity that feels under discussed is its almost always a race to see how much money can be stolen before the market corrects. You have a product people love and trust (Jersey Mike) and you exploit the love for it. People will eventually revolt but not before someone gets rich. The lie outpaces the discovery (hey the product is shit, used to love this) just fast enough. The brand gets wrecked, and the vampire squid moves on to its next host. Intentionally enshitifying things people love might as well be financial cancer.
