This is like complaining that St. John Chrysostom never praised the good things that the Emperor and Empress did.
What a woke-scold, that Chrysostom guy!
@FinnishZoomer St Nicodemus needs to get out more.
Sure, I stopped smoking seven years ago, but it was not disgusting at all. It was rather pleasurable.
@Dannyzerk@poperespecter1 Pope Francis was a shit theologian and made a mess of it by claiming doctrinal development, priming the Church for dissent on all sides.
@CrowArmbrustCR@JesusIsLord0405 That's true.
Pope Francis said many heterodox and contradictory things.
I don't think everything can be reconciled with orthodox Christian doctrine.
However, on prudential grounds, he did have the right to restrict the application of the DP.

What is going on here? The Lutherans are on notice until we figure out whatโs happening hereโฆ
@calvinrobinson Fr Calvin Robinson,
Pot calling kettle black.
As an Anglican, didn't you get your own valid apostolic orders from a communion of disobedient Old Catholic bishops?
@vorcette_@calvinrobinson If his affiliation were a Facebook relationship status, it'd be "It's complicated."
My vague understanding is that he has valid apostolic orders obtained from a line derived from Catholic schismatics, but has belonged to different Protestant communions with Catholic leanings.
@ShaneSchaetzel Like with the fate of unbaptised babies and the view of Original Sin, the post-Conciliar Roman Church has drifted away from St Augustine and towards the East, remaining nonetheless anchored in Catholic tradition.
These shifts are not always necessarily wrong.
@ShaneSchaetzel It's certainly difficult to argue against the death penalty on the grounds of doctrinal development, and I think to do so is an error, but we should still give this post-conciliar view due consideration because as a prudential judgment, it's not necessarily incorrect.
@Sola_Requiem And not only on this.
He also veered too close to double predestination. Indeed, the heresies of Jansenism and Calvinism are based on some of his erroneous views.
@Sola_Requiem Agreed.
St Augustine was awesome, but he was not infallible.
This view of his is at variance not only with the modern Church but with the broader Catholic tradition, including the Eastern Fathers.
On this, he was wrong.
@IFFFMEISTER True.
St Augustine was a Saint and a Doctor of the Church, not an infallible oracle.
His views on predestination veered too close to double predestination, and modern Rome's view on original sin has moved in the direction of Eastern Orthodoxy.
@SkyKnight1570@matthew_sede The Council of Trent never mentioned the death penalty in any of its official decrees.
We know both the death penalty and slavery have been permitted in certain circumstances, as per Holy Scripture.
@GringoPapist Unfortunately the big computer is a rather dated ext3 Linux system.
With a folder for each denomination, the could only save the first 31,998 denominations.
