I didn't realize how different everyone's ABs would look. The class has criteria that is so different from past class criteria and it's really refreshing to see #globalstudies150
The peer reviews I've received definitely helped strengthen my AB. It's kind of hard to see your own work objectively so I really appreciate the feedback :) #globalstudies150
@EdwardZ002 I would say technology can be a part of clutter. For me, clutter means an abundance of unnecessary things that constantly get in the way. Constant electronic upgrades (like yearly) are clutter but upgrading from an iPhone 5 to iPhone X is reasonable. #globalstudies150
It seems like capitalism is a way for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. And yet its early signs of formation were by the middle class? #globalstudies150
@Ro_MercedesA I agree with both of the responses to this thread. If we need to buy clothing, we need to buy ones we know we'll keep for a long time (which usually makes them more expensive). Thrifting is also a sustainable way to fill your closet. #globalstudies150
"The True Cost" mentions the education of Richard Wolff, a man who says the fashion industry is corrupt. He graduated from Harvard, Stanford, and Yale, which, because of the institutionalized state of cultural capital, makes his opinions/judgments highly valued.#globalstudies150
In the film "The True Cost" we hear that large fashion companies like H&M refused to do interviews…what does that say about them? #globalstudies150
In "The True Cost", a woman with traditional Indian dress (and I’m assuming is actually Indian because she had the physical characteristics of an Indian) had a British accent. Does this relate to a course concept? Pluralism? Cultural capital? #globalstudies150
Are scholarly sources better or more credible than substantive sources? I think I prefer substantive sources because I can read/understand them better. #globalstudies150
Do you think it's possible to have different amounts of cultural capital in different cultures? My first language is English which helps a lot here but doesn't help me in rural areas of countries that speak a different language. #globalstudies150
Tell me why I didn't understand what cultural capital was until I read other people's slides on it. Things would be so much easier if everything was written in plain English. #globalstudies150
