My son's preschool called because he's been "hoarding rocks." I thought they meant like a few. No. His cubby had 47 rocks in it. His backpack had rocks. His pockets were full of rocks. The teacher said he's been collecting them at recess and "protecting" them. When asked why, he told them he's "preparing." For what? He won't say. Just "preparing." We had a talk. He's completely serious about these rocks. Has names for some of them. I made him leave them at school. Got a call the next day - he'd redistributed them to other kids for "safekeeping" and now eight 4-year-olds are running a rock protection program. The teacher says it's "the most organized she's seen them all year." My son might be a cult leader.
