If the victim and the perpetrators had been reversed, this would have been wall-to-wall coverage for a week. Politicians would be lining up. Every newspaper would be running it on the front page.

The outrage would be endless.

Instead it’s a quiet local story that most people will never hear.

Christopher Bradbury was loved by his family.

His life mattered.

Many of us were dispirited by Farage handing the establishment an open goal in Clacton. It allowed the establishment to hoot and guffaw at the prospect of a humiliating faceoff with Binface -- caring nothing about how it turns British politics into an simperingly embarrassing farce or what it means for the people of Clacton's ability to choose a future. Well, here's an antidote. A thoughtful, patriotic leader of a party with a serious policy platform is willing to do what the mainstream parties, to their great shame, aren't: give the people of Clacton a choice.

The @SDPhq is a small, underfunded party (and who is surprised that they're underfunded, given they offer detailed, carefully considered, sometimes painful proposals for a proper reformation of the system of systems that is the British state and economy, and worse, ones that actually fit well with what the electorate want? Who wants that? Just the People.) But even if you disagree with the policy platform, it is undeniable that they are willing to do the right thing and actually take the problems facing Britain seriously, do the hard yards of producing solutions, and then have the bravery to pin their colours to these solutions even if they mean unpleasant tradeoffs. Isn't that what political parties should do? Surely giving the people of Clacton and, by extension of the media coverage of this by-election, Britons more broadly an opportunity to see such a platform is a good thing.

I am fairly certain that the establishment (by which in this case I mean the legacy media and political class), in all their smug denial of the issues and refusal to countenance an alternative way forward, will do their best to ignore this real choice. We should therefore do our best to ensure that people are aware it at least exists, even if we don't agree with everything Mr Clouston and his SDP says.

There is great potential in this country, but we must give it a chance to breathe. Repost tweets. Tag podcast hosts and news presenters. Get the word out. It costs you ten seconds every day to make a difference. Make British Politics Serious Again.

People argue about what size the state should be, but we ask what it's responsible for.

When you think of it like that, it becomes really simple:
✅ maintain the pitch
❌ don’t play on it

A serious economy needs a competent state: one that keeps the ground in order, the pitch playable and applies the rules fairly.

If you do that, then the people of Britain can play the game their own way. Raising a family. Building a business. Just getting on with your life.

What we’ve had recently is the opposite. We’ve had governments who

The issue is competency, not size.

The police must stop engaging in "woke" culture wars, says a major government-backed report.

This is a truly damning indictment of the state of British policing and vindicates many of the arguments the Free Speech Union has been making over the past six years.

The report was co-chaired by the former Labour Home Secretary, Lord Blunkett, who said there was "no room for culture wars or woke" causes in policing. Asked whether there was a problem with "two-tier" policing in Britain, Lord Blunkett said: "We make it clear in the report that there's no room for culture wars or woke ... In fact, I have quite a record on this myself. I wrote back in June six years ago, just at the beginning of Covid, when people were talking about the controversy of taking the knee, that it isn't the job of the police in our country to take sides of any sort.

It's the job of the police to deliver."

Sir Stephen Watson, one of Britain's most senior police officers, issued similar warnings, saying policing had "adopted the language of activism" and that official guidance had "over-corrected" in an effort to combat accusations of racism.

The heinous murder of Henry Nowak, and the appalling treatment he received from police officers who handcuffed him following a false accusation of racism, has reignited the debate about two-tier policing in the UK and its tragic consequences.

Britain's policing culture has allowed a false accusation of racism to become one of the most powerful cards a guilty person can play. That is the consequence of policies that have developed over the past 30 years.

Since the 1999 Macpherson Report, identity-based groups claiming to represent different minorities have acquired disproportionate influence over policing. That ideological capture of the College of Policing and the National Police Chiefs' Council accelerated in the wake of Black Lives Matter.

In an attempt to avoid appearing institutionally racist, policing has, in some cases, over-corrected. The report argues that the service must return to impartiality and focus on its core mission: enforcing the law fairly and maintaining public confidence.

Correcting this over-correction is now a matter of critical national importance. Unless it is addressed, public confidence in the police will continue to erode, threatening the principle of policing by consent.

The Threat They Refuse to Name Is Already in the Wardrobe

Some decisions are hard. Whether to clothe your own army in your own cloth is not one of them. Yet for years the Ministry of Defence handed that decision to Beijing, and only now, with £526 million in new contracts on the table, is anyone asking why.

Sir Iain Duncan Smith calls it astonishingly stupid. He is being generous. Cooneen Defence won the contract to make British Army uniforms, then quietly outsourced the work to Chinese manufacturers. Uniforms specced to survive twenty-five washes were reportedly failing after five. The camouflage fades. The thermal signature goes with it. A soldier wearing that uniform is not hidden. He is exposed, by a decision made in an office in Whitehall, not a battlefield.

Duncan Smith's wider point is the one worth sitting with. He regards China as the most serious danger Britain has faced since 1945, and asks why a country handling that kind of threat would hand a hostile power both the manufacture and the shipping of its army's essential supplies. It is not only that Beijing can watch where the uniforms go once they leave the factory. It is that a government prepared to trade security for a lower unit price has already decided which of the two it values more.

Every serious ally has already worked this out. America requires domestic sourcing for defence textiles by law. So does Australia. So does Canada. So does France. Britain did not think to ask. That failure alone would be a scandal. Set beside everything else this government has done regarding China, it stops looking like an accident and starts looking like a habit.

The Prime Minister tried to hand over the Chagos Islands, offering Beijing strategic proximity to a joint UK-US base before the deal collapsed under its own weight. He allowed a China spy trial to collapse rather than let his government call China a threat in open court, even as MI5 already had. He approved the largest Chinese embassy in Europe, complete with a concealed chamber built a metre from the cables that carry the City's financial data. He withdrew the Royal Navy from Indo-Pacific training just as China's navy became the largest on earth. Each decision arrived wrapped in the language of pragmatism. Each one served Beijing first and Britain second.

Then there is Peter Mandelson. A man whose China ties alarmed American senators enough to prompt a dossier to the FBI. A man who failed his own developed vetting on those exact grounds, and was appointed to Washington regardless, with clearance to handle material that could get intelligence sources killed. The warnings reached the Prime Minister before the appointment did. He proceeded anyway.

Now add the uniforms. Not a closed-door meeting in Beijing. Not a sealed vetting file. A plain, visible fact, open to anyone who cares to check: the government that will not call China a threat in court also could not be bothered to check where its soldiers' clothing was made. Human rights groups say the honest answer likely involves forced labour. An industry source says it certainly involves inferior kit, chosen because it was cheap and because nobody in government was required to ask what cheap would cost.

A government can make one bad call on China and call it misjudgment. It cannot surrender islands, shelter a collapsing spy trial, wave through an embassy built for listening, and dress its own army in cloth that fails on the fifth wash, and still call the pattern coincidence.

The country does not need an inquiry to decide that soldiers should be clothed by allies, not by the state its own services warn against. That much can be settled today, in plain sight, without waiting for Westminster to find the file. The wardrobe has already told the truth the government will not.
