Membership committee co-chairs Clotelle Drakeford and Michelle Wildgrube reported on survey results asking members about the value of @NYSBA membership. They shared observations and recommendations. One recommendation is to make members more aware of the various member benefits.
Carla Palumbo, chair of Foundation, reported that Foundation raised over $100K during Annual Meeting. She thanked @NYSBA for working with the Foundation to continue to advance justice.
Association considered 2 resolutions: (1) legislative regulatory advocacy & (2) Web3 resolution for @NYSBA to explore opportunities and educate members on these issues. Association adopted both resolutions.
The @NYSBA Task Force on Emerging Digital Finance & Currency is studying/evaluating the legal issues & questions surrounding the expansion/regulation of the digital assets, digital finance, & digital currency industries, including technological innovations with the Metaverse.
Steven Leventhal, co-chair of the Task Force on the Ethics of Local Public Sector Lawyering, presented on the team’s mission, composition, and goals. Focus: ensuring that ethical obligations facing lawyers in this practice area. @NYSBA thank you for the informational report.
@NYSBA considered one resolution addressing 2 issues: Notary Record Keeping Regulations and Remote Online Notarization (“RON”) Credentialing. Seeking modification of existing rules as it concerns attorneys and 3P providers. Resolution adopted.
Catherine Christian & Andy Kossover, co-chairs of the Task Force on Modernization of Criminal Practice, presented on their ongoing work. Team identified issues in 3 areas: technology, sentencing, town & village justice courts. Recommendations will be presented to @NYSBA in June.
Joseph Glazer, co-chair of the Task Force on Mental Health & Trauma Informed Representation, delivered informational report. Report will be issued for Association considered shortly. Team wants to minimize burden on those facing mental health issues in obtaining help. @NYSBA
