The President of Somalia
Subject: Protecting National Sports
Your Excellency,
Congratulations on your government's progress. We inform you that the Ministry of Sports seems to be straying from its role, potentially hindering sports development, and other institutions may be involved in activities not aligned with public interests.
We request an independent investigation into these issues, especially in the sports sector.
Additionally, the Somali Chess Federation has achieved notable success in African and regional competitions in 2025.
We ask for your urgent attention and intervention.
Thank you.
We recently visited Kakuma Refugee Camp, which is home to over 300,000 refugees, donating our first 200 recycled @thegiftofchess chess sets. These sets, which were manufactured in Kibera, are supporting @Refugees growing demand for chess education in partnership w/ @FIDE_chess
Last Thursday, The Gift of Chess donated equipment to Dream International School in Mogadishu. This initiative shows a commitment to supporting young minds and shaping future leaders. Using chess as an educational tool, the organization helps students develop critical thinking, concentration, discipline, and creativity. Dream International School recognizes chess's value, integrating it into learning to boost students' growth and skills. This donation offers students new opportunities to enhance mental abilities and unlock potential. We are proud to support a learning environment where chess is a tool for building confident, visionary future leaders with strong decision-making skills. Thank you.
Over the coming 2 weeks, we will be traveling from NYC to Kenya & Malawi to celebrate the 50th birthday of @Susan_GOC. Alongside members of our global team, we will visiting chess programs at schools, refugee camps & prisons, witnessing first hand the power of a simple chess set.
Urgent Update: Attack on the Somalia National Olympic Committee Headquarters
We are deeply saddened to report that a group of armed and unarmed militias, reportedly led by col, Abdi Ali Mohamed (Ali Shiino), president of football federation, with support of the Minister of Youth and Sports, violently invaded the Somalia National Olympic Committee headquarters. During this unacceptable attack, they have vandalized the offices, ransacked furniture, and looted essential equipment, including sporting clothing, office materials and Olympic Rings 🥺🥺
This heinous act, occurring during blessed month of Ramadan, not only undermines the spirit of sportsmanship but also brings shame to our nation. We have immediately referred this matter to the security forces and judiciary ensuring that those responsible will face justice for their actions ⚖️
Let us stand together against violence and protect our shared values. We believe in a future where sports unite rather than divide us.

Mr. President, I greet you with respect.
After my greetings, I would like to thank you for the great work you have done for the Somali people.
Mr. President, I would like to bring to your attention that sports in the country are close to collapse, and unfortunately this is being caused by some of the leaders who have been appointed.
Mr. President, I kindly request you to take action on this matter.
Thank you.

I would like to share with you a very big achievement and development in Jona’s journey.
This was a checkmate in 10 moves position. At the beginning, he was shocked when he heard the number — for him, calculating 10 moves felt impossible. But I told him to focus on the path to the solution and to use his mind to break the big problem into smaller ones.
And he found the solution.
What was even more important to me was his ability to explain and narrate for a longer period of time. He usually struggles to speak for long, and his speech is often unclear. But this time, he was able to describe many of the moves — and I hope you could understand some of what he explained.
For me @MahmoudRoushdi1 Jona is a challenge in the sense that I am committed to giving all my effort to develop his life skills, not just to make him a chess champion.
