❗️⚠️🇺🇸 - On January 7, 2026, a shooting and vehicle ramming incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents occurred in south Minneapolis, Minnesota, near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, close to Powderhorn Park.

During an enforcement operation as part of a large-scale federal immigration crackdown deploying up to 2,000 agents, an ICE agent shot and killed a woman identified as the wife of a prominent local activist. She was driving a maroon vehicle at the time. The Department of Homeland Security described the event as involving a vehicle ramming, though details remain limited. The ICE agents were unharmed, and no other injuries were initially reported.

The City of Minneapolis issued a statement confirming the shooting and advising the public to avoid the area. Governor Tim Walz noted that state officials are gathering information on the incident and urged residents to remain calm as details emerge.

Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the federal presence, stating it is causing chaos and making the community less safe, and demanded that ICE agents leave the city immediately. Protests broke out at the scene, with local leaders including City Council President Elliott Payne and Hennepin County Prosecutor Mary Moriarty calling for transparency and the removal of federal agents.

In an update, ICE reported that officers were conducting targeted operations when rioters blocked them, and one rioter weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to run over the officers, described as an act of domestic terrorism. An ICE officer, fearing for his life and the safety of others, fired defensive shots, saving lives. The alleged perpetrator was hit and is deceased. The injured ICE officers are expected to make full recoveries.

ICE attributed this to constant attacks and demonization by sanctuary politicians, which have fueled a 1,300% increase in assaults on officers and an 8,000% increase in death threats. The situation is evolving, with more information to be released as available.
