My incredibly kind and talented LAist colleague Josie Huang and her family have lost their home and all their possessions in the Eaton Fire — including all their necessities and their young kids’ toys.
Their friends have organized a GoFundMe to help.

BREAKING: Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do has agreed to plead guilty and resign in a conspiracy to steal millions of dollars meant to feed needy seniors, following a months-long LAist investigation and federal probe.

I was one of the staff affected by the layoffs. It's demoralizing seeing the acclaim and impact of the shows I had helped produce and realize that it can't protect me from the realities of an unstable industry.
LAist has a new CEO — an Angeleno from East L.A.: Univision's Alejandra Santamaria.
She comes on the heels of our layoffs and starts the day after most buyout-takers leave.
Change is frustrating, but I hope the clean slate sets us up for success.

@LAist announced layoffs this week & began notifying employees who will be let go today.
We aren’t sure yet how many union members will be affected. But we are already losing 11 unit members and 10 more members of our staff to voluntary buy-outs.
We’ll have more to say soon.
This month Imperfect Paradise is focusing on immigration. Starting with the provocative question - what if the real dream is found in Mexico? @riostlorena Brings us the story of Daniel Zamora. Amazing work from the whole team including @natchudnovsky, @emma_alabaster 🇲🇽🇺🇸☁️
I am moved beyond words by all the support for Inheriting. Below is a personal essay about what's driving me: the family history, emotional instincts, and frustrations with mainstream journalism.
May this show find those that need it

I did not learn Asian American history until I entered college, through extracurriculars and alternative spaces. Like many others, I'm eagerly anticipating the series INHERITING by @emilykwong1234@LAist@npr for personal stories about AAPI histories 🔥

a lot to process for those in the unit and outlet at-large.
local journalism is definitely struggling ... which is why we're thankful to all of you showing support by spreading the word and donating.

We are heartbroken by this and stand in solidarity with our colleagues @LAistUnion. This follows layoffs at public media shops across the U.S. and comes less than a year after LAist eliminated 21 roles in a "restructuring."
Please support their work however you can.
The news is out to members: LAist will be offering buyouts to staff. It may not be enough to prevent layoffs.
There will be plenty of work happening over the next few weeks with our union, but I ask that if you love LAist, consider donating: https://t.co/tgyAd8Sfu2
We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at student newspapers doing vital reporting in challenging circumstances this week.
We are especially alarmed by the attack on student journalists with the @dailybruin.
Journalists must be able to work without fear of violence.
You have to check out my colleague @Samanta_Helou work. If you have a minute today, please check out her latest photo story about L.A.'s annual blessing of the animals. These portraits gave me goosebumps. Just absolutely beautiful. Now I want a pet! https://t.co/rV8uZ8vK1E
reminder that layoffs are hardly ever the fault of the workers, it's a result of managing books/resources.
workers are the labor that keep companies (private or public) financially solvent.
So proud of everyone on the Forgotten Revolutionary team!!! @natchudnovsky@audreyqq@tabasfat and of course the amazing @AGuzmanLopez who brought this story to @LAist. This was the first podcast project I greenlit when I started at LAist!! #ChicanoHistory

My latest for @LAist: Uncovering The History And Impact Of Graffiti Writing In Los Angeles✍️🏼
A written piece that includes a ~30-minute guest panel that my colleague, Jason Rodriguez, and I worked on. 🙏🏼
Read, share, and spread the knowledge. 📲

Episode 1 of Imperfect Paradise: Strippers Union is in your podcast feeds today! This series is the first time I’m out here on the podcast mic & I feel lucky to do it for a story about, as we say in this episode: sex work as work, and the work of improving your workplace.
My latest for @LAist ✍🏼
We were joined on @AirTalk by Zach Woods to talk about his NPR-inspired satire "In The Know." You can find the show on Peacock.
