➡️ CHILLIN IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS Chillin has a recurrent URI and is not amenable to medical handling. Her clinical signs are severe and she may need hospitalization if she is not eating or taking her medications. NOTE EATING IS A DEATH SENTENCE IN THE SHELTER. - This evaluation/diagnosis means that CHILLIN will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Chillin came to ACC from a hoarding situation and is still learning that people can be friends. She is a very shy and independent girl who has become more curious and comfortable around other cats, but she remains cautious and unsure around people. Chillin will need a patient adopter who is willing to let her build trust at her own pace. My Ideal Home Chillin would do best in a quiet, adult-only home with an experienced adopter who understands shy cats. She will need consistent, gentle socialization, plenty of hiding spaces, and lots of time to adjust. High-value treats and positive interactions can help her build confidence, but she should never be rushed or forced into contact. Good with Kids? No. Due to her fearful nature and discomfort with handling, Chillin would do best in an adult-only home. Good with Other Pets? Yes! Chillin came from a home with many other cats and has been spending time successfully in a free-roam room with feline roommates. She has become more comfortable spending time around other cats and may enjoy having a calm feline companion. Chillin is very fearful of people and may attempt to flee or avoid contact. She will need an adopter who is comfortable with slow, consistent socialization and understands that her progress may take time. Other Fun Facts Chillin is quiet, curious, and independent. She has made encouraging progress while living with other cats, spending more time down on the floor and engaging with her feline roommates instead of staying exclusively up high. She may not become a lap cat, but with patience, she has the opportunity to continue gaining confidence and discovering the joys of having a safe home. ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻

A volunteer writes: Octopus gave birth in a laundromat. I guess, she wanted a clean environment for her brood. She was not allowed to stay and was brought to the Manhattan Care Center with her few days old babies. Octopus was stressed and had a very hard time nursing so the eight babes were placed and fed in an incubator. Octopus remained defensive with her caretakers and not open to having a trusting relationship with them. Lately, Octopus is showing signs that she might want to engage with staff and volunteers. She likes treats and as she spends more time on top of her hiding place than in, I presented her with a tray of high end cat food that I held. She came forward and after some hesitation and back and forth, she ate while I was with caution, petting her(see video). I was not so lucky with feather wands she seemed to be scared of. Nothing really is known about Octopus. Was she a stray, a pet who got out of luck? We all wish Octopus could be given a chance because even if she shows tiny improvements at the care center, being in a quiet home with a compassionate while experienced adopter or foster could be the light at the end of the tunnel for her...Will you be Octopus' hero? ❤️ 😻❤️ 😻❤️ 😻
