America is a place, merged with an idea. Americans are those here who agree to this idea. The idea is that anything is possible and that you can live your life the way you want, so long as that way does not impinge on others’ ability to live the way they want.
As the current custodians of America, we will keep this idea sacred, so that it is healthy and alive for those who come after us. Just like those of the past 250 years did for us. Happy 4th of July.

The World Cup has turned America into a discovery channel for the rest of the world.

And they are not handling it well.
In the best possible way.

Here is what they are discovering:

Free public restrooms. Europeans pay every time.
Free water at every restaurant. Just appears.
Free refills. Coffee. Sodas. Iced tea. Unlimited.
Free chips and salsa before you even order.
Free warm bread with dinner.
Ice in drinks like civilized people.
Air conditioning everywhere. Not a moral debate. A fact.
Parking lots attached to the actual place you are going.
Drive throughs where the food comes to the car while you sit in it.
Ranch dressing by the gallon.
Tex-Mex that cannot be explained only experienced.
Dental care that actually works.
Buccee’s. There are no words for Buccee’s.

Then they found the grocery stores.

Five of them within one mile.
Each one the size of an aircraft hangar.
Burgers. Steaks. Brisket. Ribs. Pulled pork. Lamb. Veal. Every cut of every animal ever domesticated by human civilization available in one refrigerated aisle at ten in the morning on a Tuesday.

The Germans stood in the meat section for forty five minutes.
In silence.
Processing.

They finally understand why we do not have trains.

We have roads wide enough for the cars we actually drive.
Parking lots the size of small European countries.
Airports in every city worth visiting.

Why would we need trains.

The Germans are taking ranch home by the bottle.
The Dutch found queso and briefly lost the ability to speak.
The Japanese are photographing HEB like it is the Louvre.
The Czechs are weeping in West, Texas.

Welcome to America!

You wrote one of those books (126 pages) in approximately two weeks. On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century. It started as a Facebook post. It has sold 1.4 million copies. It inspired a graphic novel, a punk song, a rap song, and an opera. It made you a very wealthy man. Lesson 20 is "Be as courageous as you can." You wrote that in two weeks.

Your predictive track record: Trump would do a coup instead of the 2020 election. He didn't. American democracy would collapse under Trump 1.0. It didn't. And now: Trump will start a war with Iran specifically to manufacture a terrorist attack specifically to cancel the midterms.

You can't even be original in your own predictions!

Your 2018 book The Road to Unfreedom argued that Vladimir Putin's ideology is primarily driven by Ivan Ilyin, an obscure Russian fascist philosopher. Serious Russia scholars called it speculative. The Reddit history community, which is not exactly right-wing, wrote: "The closer you get to the present, the more of a pundit he is over a historian per se." You are a pundit who charges historian prices.

In September 2022, you held a two-hour private meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky... at a conference funded by Victor Pinchuk. Victor Pinchuk is the son-in-law of former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. You are now the inaugural holder of the Temerty Chair at the University of Toronto... funded by James Temerty, a Ukrainian-born billionaire. You chair the academic council of the Ukrainian History Global Initiative... funded by Victor Pinchuk. Carl Bildt chairs the board. Anne Applebaum is on the council. You testified before Congress in April 2024 that Republican narratives on Ukraine constitute Russian disinformation.

A historian paid by Ukrainian oligarchs telling Congress that Ukraine skeptics are Russian assets. Definitely no conflict there.

In April 2024 you testified before the US House Oversight Committee, characterizing Republican members' questions about Ukraine as "Russian and Chinese propaganda themes." Historian? You're starting to sound much more like oppo research.

Summing it up.

A two-week pamphlet sold as historical scholarship. Predictions that didn't land, now recycled today. A private meeting with a head of state, a chair funded by that state's billionaires, congressional testimony on their behalf... and a scholarly independence claim maintained with a straight face.

And today: Trump is going to war with Iran so that Iran attacks us so that he can cancel the midterms. (Again.)

I have truly horrific news...

An illegal alien driving a semi-truck has just crashed head-on into a van of Amish men, k*lling 4 of them.

It appears the trucking company that employed the illegal is based out of California and is known as a "chameleon carrier"...

...which are trucking companies that re-register under new names to evade safety violations.

The Amish men who lost their lives to this illegal alien are:

Henry Eicher, 50.

His sons: Menno Eicher, 25, and Paul Eicher, 19.

and Simon Girod, 23.

There will be no protests for them.
Their story won't be in the mainstream news.

How on earth are we behaving like a third world country and not putting every resource available to ensure this situation is rectified immediately!

As my husband and I sit here in our 54 degree home (thank god for a wood stove), searching for more firewood, getting gas daily for our generator on icy roads, trying to clean the branches off our property, while avoiding the downed power lines in our yard, not seeing a single power company vehicle, county vehicle, NOTHING, we truly feel abandoned by the services we put trust in and pay taxes toward.
We understand the catastrophic nature of this situation, but hearing ONE MONTH is unacceptable!

MS @tatereeves I know you’re working, but there is no way one month should be even a considered rational in a first world country!!!

@fema There is an entire county in MS (BENTON) that has no power company - we receive our power from two adjoining counties that split us. We are always last and always have power issues. We will be lout of power the longest. We are a poor county with little resources, no big money or power.

As a retired RN, I can confirm much of this.
I was shocked by the lack of true compassion of some of the young women I trained. Very judgmental, elitist, arrogant and selfish.
ER was the best place to see this. These young nurses were disdainful toward those they felt were beneath them. ie drug patients, alcohol withdrawals, domestic violence, arrests.
These nurses loved the “codes”, the policemen, the firefighters, the thrill. But they did not care about the people whom were there to be treated.
For the most part looking for the greys anatomy in real life.
