@MarikaSboros@ProfTimNoakes@lowcarbGP@CarynZinn If you choose Banting, don't eat carbs again.
But if you choose low fat, good carbs, my advice was to not miss carbs in a meal or else the said downregulation will start. Then when you do eat the next meal, you'll be more storage-prone. I wasnt criticising anyone :-).
@MarikaSboros@ProfTimNoakes@lowcarbGP@CarynZinn Sarcasm isn't academic debate. I'm sad you feel you need to be.
Banting makes it clear that to start this diet means not to eat carbs again. Otherwise the downregulation of insulin sensitivity that occurs during carb-free eating, will take effect. That's all. No one's WRONG.
@darlanow @ADSA_RD Managing diabetes in the long term aims at improving insulin sensitivity, not merely keeping insulin secretion & HbA1c low by depriving the body of carbs. It works. But due to the concurrent downregulation of insulin sensitivity, eating carbs again will have new problems.
@ADSA_RD A3: remember to never miss a carbohydrate for breakfast! #cuttingcarbs has been proven to worsen insulin resistance in the long-term #startwithbreakfast
@blocker65 @ADSA_RD I'm glad he's so much better. If you choose ketotic, you will lower your insulin production. Of course! But all the while your insulin sensitivity is decreasing, which you won't notice if you never eat carbs. I'm not saying Banting doesn't work!
@SpanishforKing6 @ADSA_RD No... Please don't fall into the same trap as many do... quick release carbs stimulate insulin which, when combined with fats make you fat. Quickly. When dieticians speak of high carb, we are not referring to the wrong carbs! We are referring only to the slow release carbs!
@LoliMurphy1 @ADSA_RD Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. But as you are clearly a qualified expert, sufficiently knowledgeable to ridicule the science, why don't you know the research? And if you do, why is it rubbish?
@LoliMurphy1 @ADSA_RD How you believe this to be the worst advice? You must be aware of the research? Downregulation of insulin sensitivity at the level of the Glut4 protein occurs with low carb feeding. And hyperlipidaemia decreases insulin sensitivity rapidly.
@IftikharKazi @ADSA_RD Insulin resistance is masked by the low blood sugar levels which result from low carb intake, rather than sensitivity of insulin. This is well known physiologically.
@IftikharKazi @ADSA_RD Low-carb dieting can be misleading because when people with diabetes are on such an eating plan, their blood glucose levels would decrease. But this happens due to low carbohydrate intake and has very little to do with how well the insulin is controlling the blood glucose!
@IftikharKazi @ADSA_RD Ljungqvist, O, Nygren, J & Thorell, A (2002)Modulation of post-operative insulin resistance by pre-operative carbohydrate loading. Proc Nutr Soc 61, 329–335.
Also, hyperlipidaemia from high lipid feeding or lipolysis downregulates insulin sensitivity at the level of Glut4.
