I'm 35.
At this point in my career, I know people earning ₦1m–₦10m monthly remotely and if you ask them what exactly they do all day, the answer is they over see activities.
One guy disappears for hours during workdays, goes to the gym, runs errands, attends family events and still gets "great job" from his manager.
Another works for a foreign company, travels constantly and seems to spend more time at airports than on Zoom.
Then I know brilliant people working 10-hour days, commuting through Lagos traffic and earning a fraction of that.
The modern job market is one of the strangest things I've ever seen.
The hardest worker is not always the highest paid.
Not even close.

I have had conversations with some wealthy Nigerians( millionaires and multi- millionaires), and one thing stands out: most of them don’t treat their workers well.
Fair wages? Many don’t even consider it. Right now, a lot of Nigerians working for most of these wealthy and famous Nigerians are earning below the minimum wage. Graduates are taking home ₦80k to ₦100k a month. It is not because these wealthy Nigerians/ first-class citizens can’t afford to pay more. They know many young people are desperate for jobs and opportunities, so they take advantage of that.
In the mind of a rich man: "If I offer a graduate ₦70k to be my P.A and a security guard 40k per month in the city of Abuja and they turn it down, I know someone else who will take it tomorrow". That’s how bad things are. People will fight for offers that don’t even cover their basic needs.
That’s why, for more than five years, I have used my social media platforms to tell people to learn skills, build businesses, create value for themselves and seek divine Grace to break themselves from the cycle and yoke of "shrewd, predatory and wicked capitalism". Capitalism ya werey gaan ni oo 😢 😭!
For most of my life, I have worked for myself. My pupillage years were literally the only reason I had to do a 8-to-5 job at a point in my life and I saw shege banza!!!!
In this century and age, if I were to be working for you, I wouldn’t kill myself for a job that barely pays my bills. I wouldn’t let you dehumanize me either. If you try it, I will walk away and never look back.
But most Nigerians don’t have that option. So, they stay in jobs where their boss chips away at their self-worth and self-esteem every single day. They are slowly breaking down inside, but they keep showing up because the pay is just enough to survive. It’s heartbreaking. I really hope more employers choose to do better.

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has become widely discussed in America because of a statement he made during a press conference.
Journalist:
“Today, there were very strong winds in the state of New Jersey, and security officials advised members of the delegation not to go outside for your own safety. Why did you go out to perform the prayer?”
Pape Thiaw:
“Is there anything more important than prayer? I do not think that is your concern. You fear the wind, while we fear Allah, the One who created the wind. We came here for a game of entertainment, yet we have forgotten that we were created to worship Allah.
Even if the @FIFAWorldCup World Cup final were being played today and we were one of the finalist teams, we would still go out to perform the Jummah prayer, even if it meant losing the championship.
Do not lecture us about the rituals and obligations of our religion.”
@Miss_Oluremi I don't know if I'm the only one, I hate the idea of reporting to ones spouse to in-laws(together). Just report her to her dad. If she doesn't change, she's on her own.
Kudos to @PoliceNG.
I was in Oyo Town earlier this week. This morning, as I was about to go out, I saw a crowd of people and police officers near Ilora Bridge 🚓. I waited for a few minutes to find out what was happening.
I called a man nearby and asked what was going on. He told me that the police had arrested some suspected kidnappers.
I asked him how the police knew they were kidnappers. He explained that the police were conducting routine checks on tinted vehicles. As the suspects' tinted vehicle approached, the police stopped it and asked them to wind down the windows immediately. At that moment, a woman inside the vehicle started shouting and begging the police to rescue her, saying that she had been kidnapped.
The police then ordered the occupants to come out of the vehicle, and during the search, they reportedly found a gun so sophisticated that even many Nigerian Army personnel do not carry such weapons.
Let's all be careful in Oyo Town. This situation is getting serious now.
May Allah bless our nation and all our security forces.
Me, explaining to the 7-year-old:
“The World Cup is nobody’s birthright, my dear. It is a competition, and to get there, you have to win in your region. Nobody is promised a place. Only 10 out of 54 African countries qualified this year.
It is not about population either. If it were, China and India, the two most populous countries in the world, would be there. It is not about wealth too. Otherwise, the world’s richest countries by individual wealth, like Luxembourg, Singapore and Liechtenstein, would be there.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing, special about Nigeria that earns us an automatic place at the World Cup. We have not even made the kind of breakthrough Cameroon have made at the World Cup. Nigeria have never reached the quarter-finals. Cameroon have, and even they did not qualify this year.
So, my child, we just have to try again and stop behaving as if FIFA owes us an invitation card.”

I always wonder if I would love Lagos if I wasn’t born here. People who come from outside Lagos never seem to like it.
It explains why I don’t like London. People get confused because I like Lagos and I explain that they might be similar but Lagos is home, London is not. I prefer quiet cities in the UK but I like my Lagos because I was born and raised in the chaos. I’m always in a hurry to leave London.
I don’t know if it makes sense but na so e be.
My brother taught me how to spend my money.
Growing up, I usually felt better using my money to help other people than splashing it on myself. Otherwise, I just save it. There was that fear of just spending big on myself.
He simply told me to learn how to enjoy my money because if you don't enjoy your money and spend it on what you need, you'll end up spending it on what you don't need. I'm not fully there yet, but I'm a lot better than before.
