The rise in racism and anti-Sikh hate is not just a threat to our British way of life, but it is actively destroying communities and traumatising individuals now.

In Wolverhampton, two Sikh men were assaulted, leaving one - a taxi driver in his 70s - with two broken ribs. In Oldbury, a young woman was sexually assaulted, with her perpretators telling her to 'go back to your own country'. In Walsall, a young woman was followed and sexually assaulted by a man who reportedly broke down her door and called her a 'p*** b***'.

The rise in racism is a scourge on our society and we have to unite together to stop it before any more people are harmed. 

This week, as Chair of the APPG for British Sikhs, I hosted a discussion on the rise of the far-right and racist, anti-Sikh hate.

Today 31 October 1984 marks the day when Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh & Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh delivered Justice for the Sikh Nation by punishing the power hungry Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi for her unforgivable crime of sending the Army to attack and destroy the Sikhs most sacred shrine, Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar in June 1984 and killing thousands of innocent Sikhs throughout Punjab.

Unable to accept this desecration, her own Sikh bodyguards took the responsibility of avenging this evil, by assassinating the culprit in her own home. In the process Bhai Beant Singh attained Shaheedi at the scene and Bhai Satwant Singh was arrested and given the death sentence along with mastermind Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh.

Forever they and their Kurbani will be remembered as Diamonds of the Sikh Nation - ‘Quam De Heere’
