🚨 BREAKING: Salem County Sheriff's Sgt. Cody L. Henderson, supervisor of the K-9 Unit, has been charged in the deaths of K-9 Rip and K-9 Boomer. 🚨 STARVED A RESCUE DOG TO DEATH & HID THE BODY

CONVICTED | Steve McVeigh, aged, 43, previously of #rubery, #birmingham B45 - starved a rescue dog to death and hid his body.

Three-year-old lemon beagle Willie had been entrusted to foster carer Steve McVeigh, while his owner, Melanie, was undergoing major surgery. He prromised Mel, that he would give the dog a brilliant life filled with long country walks and fun times..

Initially the signs were good, with McVeigh appearing alongside Willie (or 'Wullie' as he called him) in various local news articles to promote community projects such as Rubery's chatty benches.

At some point, McVeigh's attitude changed and he stopped providing Mel with updates, eventually admitting that the dog was 'missing'.

Devasated Mel reported the matter to police and updated Willie's microchiop status to 'stolen'. She also placed several social media posts appealing for information on Willie's whereabouts.

A close relative of McVeigh's contacted Mel and told her that this wasn't the first time a dog he was supposed to be caring for had 'disappeared'..

Under pressure to tell the truth, McVeigh eventually delivered the devastating news that Willie was dead. He had abandoned him and left him to starve to death. He refused to say what he had done with the dog's body and it has never been found to this day.

In court, he admitted to causing death by starvation along with a further four counts of animal cruelty.

The court heard in supposed mitigation the usual tale of woe about "mental health issues" and drug addiction.

Sentencing | one-year custodial suspended for a year; drug rehabilitation; 25 hours of community service; £500 compensation to Mel. 10-year ban on keeping animals.

Police have identified a juvenile scholar after he assaulted and robbed a 79-year-old man who had just withdrawn money from an ATM in Pearland, Texas.

Two other scholars involved in the robbery have also been arrested.

CONVICTED | Dan Hustiu, age unknown, from #ballymena, County #antrim BT43 7DN – caught on video beating his rescue dog.

Romanian national Hustiu pleaded guilty to cruelty to an unnamed collie-type dog following a prosecution by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

The council vet described the harrowing contents of the footage, comprising two separate clips:

They said: “In the first video, he grabbed the dog, held her mouth shut while twisting her neck and repeatedly punched her with a closed fist. In the videos you can hear the dog yelping in pain as the man punches her.

“In the second video the man is holding the dog by her neck and slamming her down to the ground. He then proceeds to again hold her mouth shut and twist her neck and then shakes her in position. Again in this footage her yelps of pain are audible and she tries to pull away from him.

“When she does get away from him she cowers under the table outside away from the man”.

The dog, whom Hustiu reportedly adopted from the Dogs Trust, was tethered inside the property to a fridge by a short lead.

Veterinary examination found that she had a laceration on her tongue and neck pain from the incident.

Sentencing | 240-hour community service order; costs of £155 and £32 of court costs. 10-year disqualification order.
