not some fic writers going around claiming explicit permission is needed to share their stuff meanwhile they be writing fics based on IPs belonging to someone else whom they definitely didn't have explicit permission from to write about
guys what are we even doing
You dumb cunts are going to get fanfiction banned everywhere with your entitlement 😭 just fucking delete everything after AO3 gets back and don't get into fandom spaces again, you'll destroy them for fun
so tempted to reply to every self important author threatening to delete their fics to go ahead and delete. go. do it. delete your fics. the people who love them already downloaded them and the rest of us dont care about it anyway. delete your fics. in fact, fully exit the fandom
the amount of tweets i've seen of people threatening legal action over fanfiction of IP's they don't own...your fanfic is only allowed to exist because it's a transformative FAN work. the moment you try to claim any sort of ownership/monetize it, you're fucked lmao
That isn't being monitored or is at a risk of being taken over by evil ppl. But now it is. And I hate it. I hate all of you. Get lost and go back where you came from. Take all your work down and just disappear. My fucking goodness this is beyond ridiculous
One of my most treasured fics is the one that's flopped the worst. It was lowkey my passion project. Looking back on it now, it's flawed, it could be better. But I still love it. I have it up there on my profile bc I'm proud of myself for writing it, flaws and all.
And it means something when ppl love fics enough to hate the idea of ever losing them. It means something when ppl want to share fics they've read about characters they care about with ppl who also love them. Its a love language. It's the only thing some ppl still have
Download my fics & store them in a folder like you’re hoarding for the apocalypse. Print my fics & show your coworkers in the break room. Read my fics out loud for your YT channel. Bind my fics into a pretty book for your personal library. As long as someone’s reading I’m happy💜
ok ao3 “authors” next time your friend asks you to borrow the book you’re reading, tell them it’s actually extremely wrong to share books with others and tell them to go buy the book to give the author more money. then threaten to sue them and see how that goes.
Fandom spaces have been infiltrated by people who want to be popular/ treated like influencers for their contributions as opposed to just people excited to be surrounded by other people who like the same thing they like and want to show them the cool shit they wrote.
Referring to kudos, bookmarks and comments as the currency of fandom is so interesting to me. You're not being paid - in any form.
Capitalism has rotten your brains. You are being appreciated and complimented. Those are NOT payments for your labour.
Your work is not a product.
If anyone finds the start of the sentence "Mass reporting fan fics to an authority outside of fandom" is familiar it's because the second half of that sentence is "IS HOW AO3 GOT BANNED IN CHINA"
