The Supreme Court handed down a one-year suspension to Atty. @jesusfalcis.

His offense? A 2018 tweet where he fiercely defended his brother by using vulgar language (“Paky* kayo mga g*ga”!).

The High Court ruled it as simple misconduct and declared that the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA) strictly mandates lawyers to maintain dignified language, even on personal social media accounts.

Okay, if the baseline for "dignity of the profession" is THAT strict, how on earth is Vice President Sara Duterte, who is also a lawyer, still holding onto her law license?

If we are talking about actual violations, her verbatim, public receipts are entirely unhinged.

Let us enumerate some:

1. Sara Duterte didn't just casually throw bad words around.

In her streamed press briefings, she completely abandoned any shred of professional decorum and screamed on live broadcast:

“P*tang ina mo BBM! P*tang ina mo Liza! P*tang ina mo Martin! P*tang ina ninyong lahat!”

“Binastos pa nila sa pagsisinungaling nila na kesyo taksil, kesyo corrupt, abusado. P*tang ina ninyo, sino ang corrupt?”

2. Let's NEVER forget when she was a city mayor and an active member of the bar.

Instead of upholding the law, she literally used a court sheriff as a human punching bag!

She grabbed him and repeatedly punched him in the face and head on camera just for executing a lawful court order.

Kagalang-galang yarn?

3. She openly admitted on live television to hiring an assassin to target the country's top leaders if a supposed plot against her succeeded:

“I’ve talked to a person. I said, if I get killed, don’t stop until you k*ll BBM, Liza Araneta, and Martin Romualdez. No joke. No joke."

4. She casually bragged during a press conference about threatening to desecrate a former president's remains:

“Isang beses, sinabihan ko talaga si Sen. Imee. Sabi ko sa kanya, kung hindi kayo tumigil, huhukayin ko 'yang tatay ninyo, itatapon ko siya sa West Philippine Sea!”

5. She publicly detailed her thoughts of extreme physical violence against the sitting president:

“I wanted to remove his head. I realized the relationship was already toxic... [I] just imagine myself cutting his head."

An ordinary attorney gets a one-year suspension for typing profanities on Twitter to protect his sibling.

Meanwhile, a high-profile lawyer and the sitting Vice President can publicly brag about hitmen, look at a camera to detail cutting off the President's head, threaten to dig up a former president’s corpse, physically assault a court sheriff, and scream “p*tang ina ninyong lahat" on live broadcast with zero professional consequences!

Hello, IBP? Ano na?

The CPRA allows you to initiate disbarment proceedings motu proprio when a lawyer's misconduct is THIS flagrant and very public!

The rules apparently apply to everyone except her.

Time to strip her of that license!

You make a really sophisticated point that hits on the exact paradox of Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr’s presidency.

You’re looking at this through the lens of constitutional leadership and moral responsibility, which is exactly what a democracy should expect.

I’ve been following PBBM since I picked him as the candidate i’ll support in 2021-2022 campaign.

Somehow, I understand his style of leadership but I don’t agree with it always. (I actually like Sandro Marcos’ clapbacks better.)

But looking at *why* PBBM plays it this way, his "non-meddling” is a feature of his political strategy.

First, it’s about branding. PBBM positions himself as the cool, collected technocrat who is “too busy working" to get messy.

While the Senate dramas unfold, he stays composed and looks like a mature adult in the government.

Second, his last name forces caution. If he aggressively calls out the Senate, critics would instantly label it as executive overreach or a return to authoritarian control.

Just look at how some accuse the admin of “silent martial law” already despite his “non-meddling” stance.

I think his silence also allows him to defend "respecting the separation of powers." You can’t go write with sticking to that.

Finally, let’s be real about the politics, too.

The UniTeam alliance is dead, and political loyalties in the Senate are shifting like sand right now.

If PBBM speaks out against the questionable conduct of certain senators, he risks alienating lawmakers whose votes he needs to pass budgets, tax reforms, and priority bills.

Keeping the legislative assembly line moving is a higher priority than giving them a lecture on ethics.

You nailed it in your critique: silence speaks volumes, and history doesn't usually look back fondly on leaders who just stood by.

Where you see a failure of moral courage, his team sees a masterful chess move of letting his opponents self-destruct.

He’s betting that, in the long run, voters will care more about tangible things like new bridges, new hospitals, and programs that affect the ordinary Filipinos than whether he defended the abstract dignity of the Senate.

Where some might look for a loud public reprimand, his approach offers something far more valuable: a calm, dignified executive that rises above the fray to deliver real results for the Filipino people.

Inakusahan niya ang Department of Budget and Management sa ilalim ni dating DBM Secretary Benjamin Diokno ng pagpapalaki ng pondo para sa mga flood mitigation projects sa unang tatlong taon ng administrasyong Duterte.

Ayon kay Andaya, may ₱213 bilyong nakapaloob sa budget ng DPWH noong 2017 at 2018 na hindi alam ng maraming district lawmakers, bukod pa sa karagdagang ₱119 bilyon para sa 2019. Itinanggi ni Diokno ang mga akusasyon, ngunit iginiit ni Andaya na may mga red flag ng korapsyon na nakita ng Ombudsman. Gayunman, hindi nagbukas ng pormal na kaso si Ombudsman Samuel Martires laban kay Diokno.

Maging si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ay umamin sa isa niyang talumpati na may korapsyon sa DPWH at sinabi pang wala siyang magagawa rito. Sa kabila ng kontrobersya at mga panawagang magbitiw siya sa puwesto, tumanggi si Diokno at kalaunan ay itinalaga pa bilang Governor ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas noong 2019.

Noong Hunyo 30, 2022, natagpuan si Rolando Andaya Jr. na patay sa kanyang tahanan sa Naga City. Ngayong muling sentro ng usapan ang mga flood control projects, marami ang bumabalik sa mga rebelasyon na kanyang inilantad mahigit apat na taon bago ang kanyang pagkamatay.

Scarborough sits about 125 nm from Luzon, roughly 4 times closer to the Philippines than to #China. It's inside the Philippine exclusive economic zone, where Filipino fishermen worked its waters for generations until China seized the shoal in 2012 & began restricting access.

But now the embassy reminds us again about China's "indisputable" & "inherent" right to whatever it claims. Golly, where have we heard that before? 🙄

(Bizarrely, Beijing also describes this as a "dispute" that should be resolved diplomatically--one of those two lines of argument is doing an awful lot of work.) 🤔

Over the past two years, Beijing has doubled its coast guard & militia presence at the shoal, and it now enforces an undeclared & illegal 30 nm exclusion zone that violates UNCLOS' freedom-of-navigation clauses (and thus the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the #SouthChinaSea, which Beijing signed) & keeps Philippine vessels out.

Most marine scientists don’t arrive with a large paramilitary cordon and a stack of talking points.

If this is an environmental survey, at least we can understand why it's necessary. The damage done by over a decade of destructive PRC giant clam harvesting at Scarborough is depressingly well documented -- except by Beijing, which publishes glossy tributes to its environmental stewardship while denying access to anyone who might want to check its work.

🔥 What we have here is a classic case of gray-zone gaslighting: seize your neighbor’s fishing ground, blockade it -- oh, and while you're at it cause a high‑speed collision between two of your own ships while chasing a much smaller Philippine patrol boat operating in waters it used to sail freely -- and then scold your neighbor for being "provocative" when it has the temerity to point out what you’ve done.

We all know this isn’t really about science. Sorry, but China has, by its actions, forfeited the benefit of the doubt.

It's about expansionism. Full stop. 🛑

Wrapping a maritime occupation in the language of "science" and "conservation" doesn’t make it any less of an occupation.
