On this day in 1977, soccer arrived in Fort Lauderdale as the original Strikers played (and won) their first ever match at Lockhart Stadium vs the St. Louis Stars.

This would be day one of 4 decades (and counting) of the 954 being the epicenter of the game in south Florida.

Exactly 40 years later, on 4/9/17, our club was born at Lockhart to celebrate & carry on that legacy.

The soccer powers that be might not value our community or that legacy, but we'll continue to do our part to make sure it is never forgotten & always respected.

Luckily I exist along with other living cuttings so that we can plant an identical tailgate tree at a new park when the time comes. (Not this crappy pink one.)

@heathermoraitis @InterMiamiCF You could have had the stadium that meant so much to not only the Lockhart family, but the city of FTL and South Florida Sports fans renovated, but you gave it up to be demolished by folks from Miami that couldn’t care less about any of that.
