Ukraine wants peace and the return of its territories.Russia wants a commitment Ukraine will not join NATO.Why not give back the Russian occupied territories in return for such a commitment.Think of how Austria avoided being split up after WW2.
Germany tried to show a change from its Nazi past by welcoming https://t.co/QVfA9Fj5q8 it has become the catspaw of the great fascist movement of the 21st cen.
58 Chinese warplanes have violated Taiwan’s air defense zone in 2 days, risking an armed clash. There’s no other flashpoint in the world so dangerous and so structurally unstable. To help examine why, I wrote this book. Check it out: https://t.co/CaSgCA6dbD
@empty_motion@catielila Is there any doubt that war with the PRC would be devastating or that PRC rule of Taiwan would be authoritarian? How about everyone on Taiwan uniting in an effort to avoid CCP rule starting with an effort to educate all ROC citizens on PRC mindset and capabilities?
@catielila You seriously think there is not so much difference in living through the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution and what your family experienced on Taiwan? And you teach HISTORY?
If Twitter existed in 1975
@DithPran: Phnom Penh has fallen, my foreign journo friends are gone, the Khmer Rouge are in the city. Please pray for Cambodia
@AltImperialist: That's what you get for being a simp for American imperialism bro
Perhaps it is necessary for a contrast to be drawn between Afghanistan and Taiwan to offset muddled thought by some. Taiwan is already a democratic state willing and able to fight for its own freedom and simply needing support to offset the military power of a totalitarian giant.
Liberal ideas many Afghans were exposed to will not disappear but will be influencing their thinking for many years to come whatever outward obeisance they must show for Taliban dogma.Perhaps those ideas will help lead to a more enlightened society after the Taliban... someday.
@catielila Have you talked to former or current Taiwan military members about what THEY think are the most important problems for the military?Dignity and preventing abuses are important but are those the top priorities in deterring or resisting a PRC attack?
The painful collapse of S.Vietnam made US voters very reluctant to support foreign wars for years after. Will the Afghan collapse have the same effect and what are the implications for Taiwan?Brave assertions are no substitute for realistic plans.
@khaledhosseini Or should the NATO forces be asking Afghans wishing to leave,"If you think a Taliban regime is so bad why did you not fight against it?"Perhaps only those who fought wholeheartedly against the Taliban should welcomed or perhaps be armed and equipped to continue the fight.
@AnneChaAsia I sympathize with her plight but perhaps Afghanistan`s fall is related to many people simply pursuing their immediate interests and relying on a higher power to keep the Taliban at bay.Would she have been willing to pick up a gun and fight? If not why?
@catielila If preservation of Taiwan`s freedom (with all its flaws) instead of submitting to PRC demands is not sufficient reason to resist, the cause is already lost.I doubt you would say this if you were not able to easily flee abroad if the PRC takes over.
Today`s example of why understanding history matters, especially for the young (like Bill).Wonder if Bill knows how many died because of Mao`s policies. For some of us Chinese lives DO matter.
This is terribly embarrassing for @nzlabour. I predict the embarrassment will get even worse for them.
Our current NZ Labour MPs must stop attending minority CCP united front events. They should support genuine NZ Chinese community events, & stand with the silent majority.
