@joequant Not saying you're wrong, but what about the fresh grad unemployment rate?
What about the factories that are shutting down? Sure it's part of the economic cycle, but are new businesses being created at a similar rate?
@joequant "our observations" are often biased. Taiwan's economic activity looks great in person, but only a fraction of our population has time and money to be out spending. But that fraction seems big because we're observing the people who are well.
@notXiangyu Again context matters right? isn't it important to recognize the circumstances -- ex. you can't expect asian parenting to work the same way when you're brought up in a western environment vs if you're raised in Asia.
yes they're annoying, but a massive generalization is bad too
@Taoyuanbucuo Maybe because of corruption or alleged corruption?
The submarine program is one example, and there’s quite a history there, including Tatung supplying Chinese-made equipment.
Don’t see this administration fixing the problem or proposing bills to tighten the process.
@cye9kv1@ObcnSuperMatt You're incredibly ignorant given access to a phone, X and LLMs where you can do a quick query to know if China is multicultural with hundreds of dialects and a dozen primary ones.
Do the world a favor and refrain from commenting if you can't do basic research.
@Why__Knot@Dosadian@joequant you still haven't made a case on why america is better off doing any of this.
CPI is up, and unemployment is up. Trust in the US is at an all time low.
The rule of law is essentially nonexistent.
So what's the catch here that we're not seeing?
@Why__Knot@joequant instead of calling names why don't you share your insights?
as far as I can tell, you haven't disproved anyone's view except to slap labels on it based on your opinion.
@Hd25Plus@joequant Yeah, except that sort of ransom exists out of geopolitics as well. That's why companies develop moats and ecosystems.
Look at what Huawei had to do with its OS.
@Hd25Plus@joequant Again, just different ways of looking at the situation. You can be friendly and cautious.
What's that analogy? Speak softly and carry a big stick.
China is a behemoth compared to those countries.
I don't see why the first island chain is a problem if they're all about biz.
@hilton_ctwh@realdoomleika@W_T_Han anyways seems like he's in web3 which is far more disconnected from society than normal tech workers.
@realdoomleika highly recommend you chat with locala from different districts outside of zhongzheng, Daan and xinyi and maybe you'll find that data highly skewed.
@hilton_ctwh@realdoomleika@W_T_Han he's a data engineer, probably doesn't spend time interacting with locals in other industries outside of precision tech / manufacturing and software
