Announcement: From this point on,
we would like to officially dedicate Chicago History to the life, legacy, and memories of Pete Kastanes.
Our hearts hurt right now, but we know Pete is in a better place, and giving the Heavens above a true piece of Chicago.
Pete was the absolute epitome of #ChicagoHistory.
I feel sick and sad at this news. I loved @vanishedchicago for the memories it brought me and connected with @PeteKastanes because of our Greek heritage and that I am a two-time cancer survivor. No words. 😢
This Afternoon, Chicago lost a real hometown legend.
Pete Kastanes of #VanishedChicagoland sadly passed away.
Pete was the essence of Chicago. His ultimate goal was to share Chicago History with our City & Chicagoans around the World.
Pete's Vanished Chicagoland Group on Facebook and across social media was definitely a huge influence for us, in doing what we do daily.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pete's Family and Friends.
We hope to do our best to keep Pete's legacy remembered for lifetimes.
Pete Kastanes was, is, and will forever be #ChicagoHistory.
C'mon, Chicago. Please show your love and appreciation for Pete. He's shared his love and appreciation for preserving Chicago's history for so many to enjoy. So very sorry to hear this sad news of his cancer recurring.
Praying for you, Pete. And for strength for your family. Thanks for your love of Chicago and many contributions to it. God bless you. You will be missed. 🙏🏼🩷🙏🏼🩷
@Svengoolie Last night was hands down the worst Chicago NYE broadcast of my adult viewing lifetime. Definitely miss the local ABC7 NYE content, although, The Dance needs to disappear and never be found.
I LOVED going to that store and drove my parents nuts every Sunday during the summer....begging them to take me to Kiddie Kingdom just so I'd get to go to the toy store. It was a magical place.
