Russia’s new plasma engine could reach Mars in just 30 days.

Russia's new plasma rocket engine is engineered to cut the transit time to Mars from 7 months down to between 30 and 60 days.

This device uses magnetic forces to speed up charged hydrogen particles to nearly 100 km/s (62 miles/s). The fast-moving particles create a small push— about the same force you'd feel if you were holding a weight of roughly 1.3 pounds.

A laboratory prototype is currently undergoing extensive testing in a specialized space-simulating chamber, with a flight model projected to be operational by 2030.
