NYSC Reforms: Adirẹ Fabric Will Replace Iconic Khaki as NYSC’s New Uniform— Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, Confirms
The Federal Government has announced plans to replace the khaki uniform worn by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with locally produced Adire fabric as part of sweeping reforms aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economy and textile industry.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed the development on Thursday while speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
According to the minister, the decision is part of the government’s strategy to promote local production and ensure public funds are spent on goods made in Nigeria.
“It’s Adire. So, Adire is being produced in Nigeria. We have them in Ogun, we have them in Kwara, we have textile industry. Let’s put our money back into the country,” Olawande said.
He explained that the proposed switch would stimulate indigenous industries, particularly the textile sector, while creating more opportunities for local manufacturers and artisans through increased government patronage.
The minister also revealed that the Federal Government is overhauling the NYSC posting system to ensure corps members are deployed in line with their academic qualifications and professional skills.
The planned reforms are expected to modernise the scheme, strengthen local industries, and improve the relevance of corps members’ one-year national service by aligning their postings with their fields of expertise.
Every headline tells the same story: security, the economy, flooding, and governance. Nigerians are resilient, but resilience should be matched with practical solutions that improve everyday life.

I don't know about you, but this is the kind of relationship I'd like my President to have with the people.
Accessible. Close to the people. Listening. Engaging.
Not detached, distant, and insulated from the realities Nigerians face every day. 😏
Members of Sunday Igboho’s Iru Esin vigilante group tracked down and arrested suspected bandits and kidnappers hiding in a bush in Ibadan. According to the group, the suspects opened fire during the operation, but the vigilantes overpowered and arrested them.
When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria:
@JAMBHQ will be abolished. Admission into tertiary institutions should be determined by the institutions themselves under a transparent, merit-based system, not by another layer of bureaucracy.
The National Youth Service Corps @nysc_ng , in its current form, will be scrapped. In its place, we will establish a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps that guarantees participants meaningful employment, practical skills, entrepreneurship support, and pathways into permanent careers.
Nigeria's young people do not need more compulsory schemes. They need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future.
