@KernCMC@Mathgarden Because they form the belief that math is an activity exclusively done in the classroom, through those passive means. It creates the misconception that any other way of mathematical thinking outside this constrictions is not valid. Math is an everyday activity.
@KernCMC Demonstrate that it is a human activity in the reach of everyone by validating the very different ways to look at a problem. Number talks is a great way to accomplish this.
@KernCMC Math should be interactive, fun and engaging for students. A kindergarten mindset reduces the anxieties and knocks down the myth that math is full of complicated and unreachable concepts. Everyone has the innate ability to engage in it.
Just learned that the word "robin" is separated as "rob-in," not "ro-bin." But the pronunciation is "raa-bn." This made me more upset than it should have.
