What he is saying here is important. I don't know enough about this issue to say yay or nay, but in my struggle to understand better the world we live in, I think it's important to consider arguments and counter-arguments, and counter-counter arguments continuously. This involves suspending or discarding ideologies & philosophies that I had once held to be true & inviolable.

Being able to do this, at least when I have done so, has served me well. It’s how I went from being a Remainer to a Brexiter, to discovering the joy and wonder of home education, going from being a vegan to a vegetarian to being a keto-meato-fruito kind of diet. I am clear that I have never arrived. I am always curious, wanting to discover more, and satisfied with the process of discovering.

If I draw a circle in which is contained all the knowledge & history of humanity, perhaps what I know is a speck of a speck. There is always more to discover. There is always more to explore. There is always room in my schedule for a conversation with @EMBurlingame

Canada has officially confirmed it.
The dramatic claim that the U.S. was “attacking Quebec culture and language” and threatening Canadian sovereignty boiled down to a request to review packaging language requirements — bilingual labels, French on product packaging, manuals, and appliances.
We are now in a full-blown trade confrontation with live 50% tariffs, tens of thousands of jobs at risk, higher costs for Canadian families (including infant formula), and retaliatory measures that will raise prices further… over soup-can labels and instruction manuals.
This is the level of spin that has defined the last eleven years. Escalate the language to “war,” “attack,” and “sovereignty” so no one can question the decision without looking unpatriotic. Then, when the details emerge, it turns out the red line was packaging rules that have been a known trade irritant for years.
Ordinary Canadians are the ones who will absorb the hits — lost jobs, higher prices, weaker investment — while the government and its media defenders keep selling the highest-stakes narrative possible.
A country cannot keep operating this way. Framing regulatory packaging disputes as existential cultural warfare while the real economic damage lands on workers and families is not leadership. It is deflection at national scale.
