Sat 15 August 2026, Arba Minch, South Ethiopia.
Honored to once again join my colleague, State Minister H.E. Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, the management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated institutions, and our brothers and sisters in Gamo Zone, Berber City (ብርብር ከተማ), for a humanitarian assistance mission in support of families displaced by the devastating natural disaster of April 2026.
Together, we are turning solidarity into meaningful action by supporting the completion of 40 homes for vulnerable families, providing educational materials and protective clothing, and planting trees under the inspiring theme, “Let Us Plant Hope.”
I warmly call upon volunteers and our partners in the diplomatic community to join us in supporting the permanent resettlement and recovery of families affected by natural disasters.
My heartfelt thoughts and solidarity are with all those affected by the landslide. May they find the strength to recover, rebuild their lives, and regain hope, dignity, and stability.

Leaving a Legacy of Solidarity and Hope in Afar.
Today (August 12, 2026), in the Afar Region, I had the privilege of launching the 2018 E.C. Summer Volunteer Service and Green Legacy Initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its affiliated institutions. It was a moment of great joy and pride to stand alongside our brothers and sisters in Afar and turn our commitment to Ethiopian solidarity in action.
This year, our volunteer initiative will deliver 10 homes for vulnerable families, a kindergarten school, and provide educational materials for our children in need, while also contributing to our Green Legacy through tree planting.
These are more than projects. Every home is a promise of dignity, every school a pathway to opportunity, and every tree a gift to future generations. Our strength lies in standing together. From Afar, we are building solidarity, planting hope, and leaving a legacy for a greener and more inclusive Ethiopia.
Together, let us serve, build, and leave a lasting Legacy.

Honored to deliver the opening remarks at the Hili Regional Dialogue – Africa Edition 2026 in Addis Ababa. Organized by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), in partnership with Ethiopia’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA). The forum convenes policymakers, diplomats, business leaders, and researchers to advance Africa–UAE cooperation.
As Africa increasingly establishes itself as a key driver of global growth, partnerships grounded in mutual respect, shared prosperity, and long-term commitment have become more important than ever.
Enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity, technology, and sustainable development, supported by continuous dialogue and joint action, can help Africa and the UAE build a more resilient and prosperous future.
Ethiopia, as a gateway to Africa and a bridge for regional cooperation, remains well placed to contribute to and advance this shared vision.
Wed 24 June 2026 Addis Ababa
This afternoon, I had a productive meeting with Ashraf Khodjaev, the non-resident Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Ethiopia. We reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between our two countries and explored ways to further strengthen our cooperation.
We agreed to expand collaboration across a range of sectors, including agriculture and agro-processing, textile and cotton value chains, mining and mineral development, renewable energy, manufacturing and industrial development, tourism, and cultural heritage management. As two landlocked countries facing similar challenges, we have also agreed to enhance cooperation on transport corridor diplomacy and transit rights.
As our diplomatic relations approach their 30th anniversary next month, I encouraged Uzbekistan to consider opening an embassy in Addis Ababa. Such a presence would help unlock the significant potential that exists between our two countries and further deepen our economic and bilateral cooperation.
