Python has textual.
Rust has ratatui.
Go has bubbletea.
Java has TamboUI - and now it has Spring Boot.

Terminal UIs built like Spring MVC controllers.

https://t.co/shYDLb2eVI Golem, perceived to be the ugliest coding agent there is. Uses JVM, use virtual threads. Doesn't beg to be known. Gets the job done.
"glm --tui tamboui" for the best experience.
Considering using Tamboui as my default in my own coding agent CLI.
Golem, perceived to be the ugliest coding agent alive, uses JVM, doesn't beg to be known, but gets the job done.
TamboUI has three backends, which to use?
- panama - when you need speed and can run on Java 22+
- aesh - similar to jline but more complete and allow sshd/websocket access
- jline3 - good old jline; stable and just works.
TamboUI is also designed with @GraalVM in mind! You can compile your interactive terminal applications (think Claude Code) as native executables, making Java a first class citizen in terminal applications development, with low memory footprints and fast startup 🚀🐰
TamboUI can take selfies!
ExportRequest.export(buffer).as(Formats.SVG)
and you have a hires scalable image of your screen or any sub-area!
jbang demos@tamboui
to try it
press E to export to see svg, txt, html formats.
TUIs are all the rage these days. Yesterday a new framework called TamboUI was announced. This is an open-source Terminal UI framework for the Java ecosystem! So naturally I built a Spring Initializr using it and it works great!
https://t.co/QnsAjDUEuJ was launched today - using JBang to make it easy for all to get started; pick your favourite:
jbang init -t gradle@tamboui helloworld
jbang init -t maven@tamboui helloworld
jbang init -t jbang@tamboui helloworld
Pilot your TamboUI for testing.
Pilot is a headless api to blackbox test your tui applications.
You can do key presses, click on component ids and more.

TamboUI video recording!
The asciinema clips at
https://t.co/ZOQFLemHu0 is made by TamboUI as part of its doc build.
Even supports VHS .tape format to direct the video.
Not yet a public API but I think we could make one if enough interest.
