In 1967 Britain had more electric vehicles on its roads than every other country on earth put together, and they were all delivering milk.
There were tens of thousands of them. The milk float: open sided, battery under the floor, top speed of about 15 miles an hour, and a whine you could pick out in your sleep. It was charged overnight at the depot and was back there by lunchtime.
It carried glass bottles. Each one was collected from your step the next morning, washed and refilled. A bottle went round like that 20 or 30 times before it broke. The foil cap went for scrap. There was no other packaging.
The milk had come from farms within a few miles, through a local dairy, and was on the step before 7.
So here is what the country had. A zero-emission delivery fleet. Reusable containers with a return rate any modern scheme would kill for. No plastic. A supply chain you could cycle the length of. A man who noticed if an old lady's bottles were piling up, and knocked.
It was dismantled in about 15 years, because a supermarket could sell milk a few pence cheaper in a plastic jug as a way of getting you through the door.
Every piece of that system is now the subject of a government target for 2040.
It was running in 1967, silently, in the dark, and nobody thought it was worth a mention.
The time has come for a Scottish Unilateral Declaration of Independence.
UN Resolution 1514 affirms peoples’ right to self-determination. The ICJ confirmed UDI is not prohibited by international law.

Helen Lewis asks the secretary of state for justice if arresting a 94 year old (with an OBE!) for holding up a placard is a good use of resources
Norris defends arresting 94 year olds as terrorists for holding up a placard.
Tell me again how Andy Burnhams govt represents change
"You can't pick and choose when democracy applies"
Former First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon tells @helenlewis that there is 'glaring contradiction' with Labour's position on Scottish independence and Brexit
Lisa Nandy says “the question of Europe was never settled forever” - very eloquent argument.
So it’s ok for the UK to change its mind on Brexit after 10 years - but Scotland can absolutely never ever change its mind 12 years after the indyref? 🤔
It's all kicked off at Braehead Arena between St. Johnstone and Dundee United! 👀

Burnham wants to help with the cost of living crisis. Could do it in a second in Scotland. Give us electricity zonal pricing. Cheapest energy then in Western Europe. He won't. Why? Can't have Scotland doing better than England. A Union of Equals? Never. Always England first.
Oli Dugmore calls out Suella Braverman’s dog-whistling.
She then squirms and evades when asked FIVE times if she really thinks you can only be English if you’re white.
Oli Dugmore has the perfect response to her incoherent absurdity: Ian Wright and Bukayo Saka. 🔥

⛔️Believe it or not ‼️This plane fell from 34,000 ft to 17,000 feet in just 2 minutes, yet passengers are walking in a straight line unhinged‼️
⛔️No oxygen masks were deployed during this time‼️
⛔️Give me a break ‼️
⛔️They think we are stupid to believe their staged propaganda:
1. Got knife through security‼️
2. Broke down cockpit door‼️
3. 2 reserve pilots behind the cockpit that took over‼️
4. Mossad agents right behind the cockpit‼️
4.Israeli flag ready for photo‼️
5. Big speaker‼️
⛔️Another pathetic victim card‼️😃
