@jcastrodeleon @ElissaMMonteiro I agree, I think that their education and careers should be prioritized over athletics to help college athletes prepare for their future. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
Studies have shown that athletics don't always promote higher education, in fact, it might even be counterproductive for many students' education #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
Many student-athletes are forced into majors, that they are not interested in, because the workload may be less demanding. This strips them of their educational opportunities.

The NCAA Transfer Rules do not prioritize athlete's academic interests. Unless their major is discontinued at their institution, the NCAA won't grant an exception. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
@Rachael16450674 @ElissaMMonteiro I agree. The NCAA needs to take better care of athletes by providing the proper training to the coaches but also providing students with the knowledge of symptoms of a concussion so that it doesn't go unnoticed.
Many times concussions go unnoticed and more than 50% of them go unreported. I think the NCAA needs to require and provided coaches and students with concussion education. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
@KFarahanchi@ElissaMMonteiro I agree! I don't understand why some colleges do not comply with Title IX. Some claim that it's because of funding, but many have the funding they just don't distribute it correctly. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
The passing of Title IX led to an increase in females participating in sports. However, this doesn't mean that all colleges comply with Title IX. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro

@CMHuggyPool @ElissaMMonteiro I don't believe it's fair. A full athletic scholarship only covers part of tuition, fees, & other expenses. That means that a partial scholarship would cover almost nothing for students playing a certain sport. #UCR150@ElissaMMonteiro
The NLI is a contract between student-athletes and the institution they intend to play for. Signing the contract may not be obligatory but once it's signed it's difficult to break the contract. #UCR150@ElissaMMonteiro
@ginitaa_@ElissaMMonteiro Student-athletes are not being treated fairly. I heard that some lose their scholarships if they get injured and can't play anymore, which I think is unfair. #UCR150@ElissaMMonteiro
By using the ideal of amateurism, the NCAA is able to exploit student athletes. They are labeled as amateurs to justify the low payment of athletic scholarships. #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro

@jcastrodeleon @ElissaMMonteiro Exactly, they deserve to be paid more since they are putting in the same amount of work and are being students at the same time. #UCR150@ElissaMMonteiro
Student-athletes are expected to put in all of their time and effort into their sport yet they're not being compensated for their work. #UCR150@ElissaMMonteiro
