I grinded nonstop from ‘15 to ‘24 across two operationally intensive hypergrowth startups. July ‘24 was the first time I ever stopped to prioritize something other than work.

I switched the grind to the gym, track, and intentional nutrition

Much of the advice on building companies comes from people whose actual job is investing in them.

VCs have time and economic incentive to podcast and post. Operators are busy building and have less direct economic incentive to personal brand build.

So the internet systematically overrepresents investor opinions on company building (buoyed by the few investors who were great builders).

If great builders and operators published as much as VCs, the average quality of startup and scaleup advice on the internet would 2-5x.

There are two types of companies.

Company 1. Talk loudly about what they will do.

Company 2. Do things and mention it months after it happened because PR is a necessary part of building a company.

we went from a 150 sq ft closet with 15 3D printers to 100k+ sq ft with 600 machines, doubling this year. largest 3D operation in the United States. 50+ new jobs in a dying manufacturing community in 4 months.

@itsthomson I was shocked to learn this specific stat but not surprised something that sounds so simple to solve hasnt been solved.

Simple doesnt mean its easy! Hike solves hard problems to make the seemingly simple, possible!
