U.S. Ambassador to Namibia John Giordano says Namibia is strategically important to the United States due to its critical minerals and offshore oil potential.

Giordano made the remarks in an interview with BBC Focus on Africa, saying Namibia aligns with U.S. interests abroad and offers opportunities to expand bilateral relations.

He said Namibia’s mineral resources, including uranium, lithium and tantalum, are key areas of interest for U.S. commercial engagement.

Giordano also highlighted the Orange Basin as a key area for potential oil extraction, noting that major U.S. companies are looking to operate there.

Giordano further described Namibia as a young democracy that shares values with the United States, including support for private investment, transparency, and strategic independence.
