Fake South African passports are so prevalent, which is making it more difficult for South Africans to go abroad.
I remember this one time I entered into Thailand from one of the neighboring countries. I was pulled aside by the immigration officers. They checked me thoroughly and then scrutinized my passport, comparing it to the fake ones in question.
They asked me to sing the National Anthem infront of them and two Nigerian men who were claiming to be South Africans.
*Their documents were a close match* but were flagged because it was a bit faded, and when questioned, they knew nothing about South Africa.
- Not the local language
- Not the capital cities
- Not the Anthem
- Nothing.
Man, it was one of the most frightening moments in my life.
But my point is,
South Africa is becoming synonymous with lawlessness and its adding strain to the lack of limited opportunities South Africans do have.
The privileges we enjoy abroad are becoming less and less and it’s becoming costly to go through the processes of getting yourself abroad.
