Gilaka’sla @ManitobaNurses for this amazing swag. My mom was a survivor of St. Michael’s residential school and a registered nurse. I am an RN too and we are still healing. You’re recognition means the world to me and mine 🧡#NursesKnow@BCNursesUnion
Hello! We’re the Midwives Association of British Columbia, or MABC for short. We are the professional association for #BCmidwives and represent more than 400 midwives across the province. Is there anything you want to know more about when it comes to midwifery in BC?
(1/3) Today, June 21st, marks #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay. We celebrate Indigenous midwives every day for their critical work and the crucial role they continue to play in caring for their communities holistically and in alignment with community needs.
When I was inducted as @CMA_Docs' first Indigenous President, my mom reminded me that I needed to “own my power” and embrace the belief that I could help make health systems better. I had a responsibility to the people who’d cleared the path before me to live up to their expectations.
The CMA’s recent announcement of an apology process, focused on the harm the health care system has caused Indigenous Peoples, is a needed step on the path of reconciliation.
Today, on Indigenous People’s Day, I want to recognize the importance of this apology process, and celebrate those who have worked tirelessly to lay a path to today. Our next steps will be heavy. The harm to Indigenous patients, families and communities is real. Together we can bear the weight of each step, remembering that the progress we make is achieved together.
This is my Father Gordon Silas Dick. I think he’s only about 5yrs old in this picture. It was just before he was taken away to residential school.
He has the biggest heart and best laugh. Thank you for surviving Dad and loving me so much. Happy Fathers Day 💕

Did you know that BC midwives participate in over a quarter of pregnancies each year, providing care to over 10,000 families? Our province has the highest rate of midwifery-involved maternity care in Canada. #BCMidwives#BCMidwifery
I had the privilege of meeting with Indigenous nursing leadership and @BCNursesUnion staff at the @HyattVancouver a few weeks ago and was singled out for being indigenous and treated poorly by their staff when checking in. #racism#whenDoesItEnd https://t.co/mnc2injNNy
Goosebumps watching our new Premier being sworn in on Musqueam territory with some of their protocols. So disappointed in @GlobalBC for cutting off ceremony to go to @keithbaldrey. Missed opportunity for BC to partake in reconciliation and witness ceremony/protocols. #bcpoli

If we replaced “health worker #burnout” with “workers practicing in unreasonable and unsafe conditions” we’d have a much more honest conversation about what in the health system needs to change.
