The Pirates could have picked local legend Cole Young in the 1st round of the 2022 Draft.
Instead they picked Termarr Johnson. 4th overall.
Johnson is hitting .196 with a .612 OPS. At Triple-A.
Why is Cherington still the GM?
Despite pitching being a strong point in 2025, #Pirates fired their pitching coach. How’s that worked out?
Team ERA in 2025: 3.76, 7th; in 2026: 4.06; 15th
Starters ERA in ‘25: 3.71, 6th; in ‘26: 4.01, 9th
Bullpen ERA in ‘25: .3.83, 13th; in ‘26: 4.14 17th
Significant decline!
This is the only known instance in the history of Major League Baseball in which a four-base error occurred in which the ball went over the fence, and it’s very possible it could happen again if the play tonight is appealed.
The fact that it would be the second time to happen in history, and both times the outfielder is Joe Adell, is unfathomable.
We can pretty much say Hank is a bust. The other three who were mocked to the Pirates in 2021 haven’t been much better. Jack Leiter hasn’t been worthy of 1.1, Mayer and Lawlar have been extremely underwhelming so far in their careers.
Man, what happened to Henry Davis?
- No. 1 pick in 2021
- Slashed .370/.483/.663 in final college season with 15 HRs
- Hit .290 with a .936 OPS in the minors (189 games)
His MLB stats are straight up PUTRID:
227 games
696 at-bats
.174 AVG
19 HR
.548 OPS
245 seems low compared to the MLBPA proposal and I’d guess it ends up being higher if anything ever happened like this. However the floor proposal is the only way that a team like the Pirates could make Paul Skenes a one hat player.
BREAKING: As expected, MLB proposed a hard salary cap to union officials today as part of the next CBA, sources tell ESPN. The salary floor for teams beginning in 2027 would be set at $171.2 million which includes player benefits with the ceiling at $245.3 million.
