@GMB Just watched one of the most ridiculous debates on GMB. We’re seriously discussing policing how people on benefits spend money, while governments are allowed to strip funding from youth services, the arts, education support and community programmes, the very things that prevent addiction, crime and hopelessness in the first place.
If someone is trapped in addiction, tackle the ROOT cause. Invest in mental health, prevention and opportunity. Stop creating reactive societies then blaming the people failed by them.
The hypocrisy is staggering. We’ll debate restricting a struggling person’s spending habits, but not the long-term social damage caused by gutting the services that kept young people engaged, safe and supported. Look where we are now with knife crime and youth despair. Absolute madness.
