Strengthening Tanzania-Kenya Industrial Cooperation
The Chairman of the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Mr. Hussein Suphian, together with the Executive Director, Eng. Leodegar Tenga on 10th June 2026, welcomed H.E. Ambassador Catherine Karemu, High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to the United Republic of Tanzania, during a courtesy visit to CTI headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
The engagement reflected the growing commitment by both Tanzania and Kenya to deepen private sector collaboration, following the direction provided by the two Heads of State and the outcomes of the Tanzania–Kenya Business Forum.
Discussions focused on practical measures to strengthen trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between the two countries, including addressing Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs), improving harmonization of regulatory processes, enhancing digitalization, and strengthening implementation of Rules of Origin within the East African Community.
While acknowledging the progress made through mutual recognition of standards and regional standardization frameworks, both parties noted that challenges remain, particularly around regulatory harmonization and multiple inspection requirements affecting businesses operating across borders.
CTI reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Kenya High Commission and private sector stakeholders to support a more integrated regional market, promote joint investments, and create a more competitive environment for manufacturers.
The discussions also explored opportunities for stronger engagement between Kenyan and Tanzanian industries, including participation in the upcoming Tanzania International Manufacturers Expo (TIMEXPO).
Industrialization is stronger when the region grows together.
