Nanna Tangi Ida - my Kannada translation of the German best seller '22 Bahnen' is now available on Amazon.
Blurbs in Kannada and English, and link below.
This passive-aggressive set of instructions from a nearby park is an example of great Kannada-English translation. Far from just matching word to word, the translator has managed to capture the snootiness so well that you cannot tell which was the source #KannadaTranslationPass
#ReadwithBLF: This month, we're celebrating translations that give us portals into new worlds, cultures and ways of thinking.
Meet some of these authors and translators at #BlrLitFest 2025!
@banumushtaq, @deepabhasthi, @arunava, Harsha Raghuram, Mini Krishnan and @deshakaala.
@btbytes@emessp571@hamsanandi Yes, you're right! Devarakere is a rather historical lake, quite beautiful. They even used to have some pedal boats (2 decades ago).
Encore! And now Deepa Bhasthi’s translation of Banu Mushtaq’s ‘Heart Lamp: Selected Stories’ makes the shortlist of the International @TheBookerPrizes. The first work from Kannada to be there. Published by @andothertweets in the UK and @PenguinIndia in India. Such fantastic news!
@crazy_chipkali I.e., they used to distinguish b/w original works in English and translated works to English, but they stopped it since 2015 is what I read. In any case, Kannada is on the world literary map :D
@crazy_chipkali According to their own website it's the first Kannada book. Someone pointed out that UR Anantamurthy was nomiated (and shortlisted) in 2013. They changed the rules in 2015 to merge the Man Booker and IBP, so I think they count this as the first. It's a bit confusing.
Moving Bengaluru
The people who help us reach our
places of work, without whom we
may be back home safely everyday.
The people who get the city going
and moving, form a pillar of
Bengaluru.
