Policy takeaway: Uniform child adoption tax credits may inadvertently counteract the subsidies meant to support foster adoptions -- suggesting a need to align incentives towards the goal of better child outcomes. Read full paper here: https://t.co/rxitF1y3Ng
The 2000s saw a surge in international adoptions, led by celebrities like Madonna and Angelina Jolie, alongside a boom in US fertility technology. But how did these "alternative paths" affect children in the U.S. foster care system? 🧵

Findings: Increased access to international adoption and ART significantly reduces the likelihood of younger children being adopted from foster care. Our IV strategies show a substitution effect as these alternatives became more accessible.

Driving back to Bangalore on the NE7 — very impressed with the road quality! Quick question: is this headway distance a bit too conservative? Seems to be 3x the average in many countries.

@kaushikcbasu KC Das may be the bridge between the Bengali and Bengaluru but I hope you’ve tried the “masale” (dosa) and other delicacies that it has to offer. Also theatre… thanks for kind words about my hometown
My first 5K in months on a cold but contemplative and inspiring route along the Italian coast. Gearing up for the year ahead. May it be filled with good health and joy for everyone!
I completed a 5K run #2025econ5k along the Adriatic coast. With a shoulder surgery scheduled in less than 2 weeks am OK with 33 minutes. Will pick up pace next year :)
@dieworkwear Another example of weaving splendor: vibrant cotton saris from Karaikudi, handwoven by a craftsman likely in his late 80s or even 90s, carrying forward centuries of tradition in his art. My wife bought this one last summer! (Nelli handloom, Kanadukathan)
@dieworkwear Countless artists, young and old, keep this tradition alive, yet many don’t receive the recognition or rewards they deserve. I often choose Khadi for its style and breathability—essential for my fieldwork in India.
@dieworkwear Thanks for the insightful thread! I know an Italian family in the yarn and high-quality fabric business who visit India annually to source clothing and admire the incredible craftsmanship and artistry. Be it silk, cotton, or the Khadi you’ve highlighted.
