Thank you Carol Hoffman for sharing strategies for supporting #ELL students today in our faculty meeting! Dewitt middle school is lucky to work with and learn from you, Carol!
@AllAboutKids8 @DPS61Decatur@JeffDase@Mstewart_2u@BrennaTripp9 I hope I did your words justice! It was a gift to learn from you tonight, thank you! I’m looking forward to next week. I’m sure @chrisemdin will have another stellar group. Can’t wait!
@AllAboutKids8 shared her method for mediating disciplinary situations. My takeaways: include all stakeholders ex: Ts, kids & families, determine which norms were violated and who those norms represent, ensure systems and procedures are equitable #HipHopEd https://t.co/IlTbqDOMWp
Do all kids need to learn the same things at the same time? Should the conversation change to: When will a student be able to learn x concept/skill? Many gems to mull over long after this conversation is done. #HipHopEd https://t.co/IlTbqDOMWp
Currently listening to an absolutely incredible conversation. Discipline, SEL support, disability, family school connection, culturally responsive instruction and policies, and more! #HipHopEd https://t.co/IlTbqDOMWp
I was invited to give an MLK speech today and a small number of members of the group hosting me wrote and then leaked emails opposing my giving this speech, as it dishonored Dr. King for me to do so. They called me a "discredited activist" "unworthy of such association with King"
Some outlets say Zaila Avante-Garde is the first Black woman to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee, but she’s the 1st AFRICAN AMERICAN
Jody-Anne Maxwell from Jamaica won in 1998
Others say she’s won the NATIONAL SPELLING BEE, which is an interesting story…

Watching my @FallCreekES student on her #morningmeeting during distance learning is delightful. Being able to see her learning in action is a gift during some really challenging times. We knew she was learning #ASL in kindergarten but watching her sign is such a treat.
@SaadiaFaruqi@CapstonePub@metahatem Congratulations! My daughter is going to be so excited! Your books are her favorite. Perfectly complex plot, a manageable reading level along with much appreciated representation. We read them often!
Welcome to DeWitt Middle School! These lovely drawings and reminders to wear our masks are such a great way to be welcomed into the building! @IthacaNYSchools students created these beautiful and inclusive chalk illustrations yesterday!
Our grab-and-go summer meals program begins next week and each of our pickup locations will have free books for families to take home! #JumpIntoReadingICSD
This article highlights many of the important factors to consider as we build an antiracist educational system. Another great read from Teaching Tolerance.
"I do believe that it’s better late than never, but schools must be intentional and thoughtful as they begin this life-long commitment." @teachntransform offers questions educators should be asking as schools embark on anti-racist education work.

This thread is a great resource for people who want to learn more about antiracism. I highly suggest taking a deep dive into these books, podcasts, social media feeds, and more.
So I love that my social media feeds lately have turned into hubs of education and learning about antiracism and justice. I get that it can be overwhelming, though, like drinking from a fire hose. So I made some flow charts to help you find the right starting point for you:
IHS Students and Families: Summer Academy is being offered for students in need of credit recovery classes. Contact your school counselor this week to register and enroll in the needed courses. @IthacaHS_NY
The foundation of our schools are built on white fragility. If we treat Black lives with the same respect, schools would be a place of liberation.” @seanbradwell
