Doug Ford is all words, no action.
He promised $5 billion to protect Ontario businesses from Trump's tariffs. Two years in, he's given $100m to one steel company and only spent $40M across all other businesses.
Put another way, Ford wants to spend more on removing bike lanes in Toronto ($48M) than he's spent protecting all of Ontario's businesses from an international trade war.
Ontario deserves serious leadership, that follows through on promises, and actually puts people before profits.
This is the unfinished homework of 14-year-old Daniel Umansky.
On the morning of September 25, Daniel was sitting in his room in Kyiv, doing his homework.
He was writing about Volodymyr Monomakh, a ruler of Kyivan Rus, and his moral teachings written almost nine centuries ago. The assignment asked Daniel to think about how those principles might be understood today.
He wrote about respecting others, protecting the vulnerable, helping orphans, and other basic human principles.
Daniel never finished his home assignment.
At around 8 a.m., a Russian het drone struck his apartment building in the center of Kyiv.
Daniel was killed in his room. Among the wreckage of the family’s apartment, his school notebook remained open.
There is a terrible symbolism in what Daniel was writing at the moment his life was taken. A 14-year-old boy was trying to put into modern words a centuries-old principle: the strong must not be allowed to destroy the weak.
He never finished that thought. A Russian drone reached his room first. You can see the drops of blood on his school notebook.
Today, Daniel was laid to rest in Israel, where his grandparents live.
In September 2026 alone, there were 235 air alerts in Kyiv. Schools, hospitals, universities, infrastructure, and residential buildings were under deliberate Russian attacks. Hundreds of civilians were injured. Around thirty were killed. Danya was one of them. There should be responsibility. There should be just peace.
His mother was wounded in the same attack, and the family’s home was damaged.

First, proof is not what is required in these cases but evidence. These are different things. Intel services often can’t provide proof because that would compromise their sources. They can provide sanitized evidence consistent with their assessments.
Second, that’s exactly what happened when the US went to its allies to warn them about the impending Russian invasion back in 2021. They demanded proof but we couldn’t give them enough without revealing that we had penetrated Russian decision-making circles at a very high level.
So they sat all smug and secure and pontificated on lack of proof… up to the day Russia invaded.
Article of mine was published today in @washingtonpost . In it,I describe why Russian citizens—led by Ovechkin—are currently acting as promoters of Russia's imperialist war. Also, how the @NHL is contributing to the war's prolongation and a higher death toll https://t.co/HpZcGm84kQ
Please don’t assume anything, Alberta. Vote against the Russian and American-fuelled separation self-sabotage. Send a strong message to the rest of Canada that we’re in this together. Foreign actors want you to vote for your own Brexit or Trump… or to help them win by staying home. https://t.co/d3nkI2s4W7
Polina Raiko's main and only artwork was her house. She started painting in her 60s and created her own world of heaven and hell, like Dante in his masterpiece. She was from Oleshky in the Kherson region. Google this city now.

Tonight I took the car and drove across all of Kyiv, just to see how my beloved city feels at this time.
It’s a strange feeling.
On the surface, you see the same utterly ordinary life that’s been here for almost all the ten years I’ve been wandering these streets. Streams of cars stuck in traffic on the immense Beresteiskyi Avenue, streetlights, neon signs, shops, advertisements, traffic lights flashing, pedestrians. Somewhere behind the lit-up windows, three or four million lives rush past you.
Supermarkets are full of people picking up groceries on their way home from work. As usual, people sit outside the cafes, wrapped in blankets. The McDonald’s restaurants, glowing yellow, are full of people eating burgers -- as always, until the sirens start wailing again.
Nearby, hipsters sip “Drunken Cherry” at tables and on the marble parapet over the underpass. The favorite little "Pita" with its awesome Middle Eastern food is open as usual.
In short, it’s an utterly ordinary, chilly September weeknight in a big, vibrant metropolis. I swear, if you got in a car too and drove around this city without knowing you were in Kyiv, you’d never guess that a brutal, catastrophic war was being fought over it, right here and now.
And amid all this, every couple of hours, somewhere in this vast city, death comes crashing down. Here, then there. An impact, columns of smoke, fires, videos on social media. A supermarket, a warehouse, a shop, a parking lot, a shopping mall, ambulances and fire trucks. Then somewhere else. And again.
And tonight, sometime in the night, another apartment block will be brought crashing down to a terrible roar, and several more families will die beneath the rubble of their homes -- because one power-drunk, aging dictator has gone mad with impunity and the intoxicating taste of blood.
That’s how this city lives, waiting for the heroically fighting army to hold out and save the world.
And you've just greenlit a use of force tactic that says it's ok for police to tackle people off bikes, the equivalent approach to motor vehicles isn't permitted. Make it make sense?
One giant company wants to take more water than all of Dufferin County uses combined, just to clean rocks. The community says no and we're standing with them.
The paradox of traditional math education is that it teaches formal notation before building geometric intuition. Memorizing formulas without the visual understanding leaves you helpless when an algorithm breaks.
This is truly a great man. He has invested more in Ukraine than 185 countries combined.
Meet Howard Buffett, Warren Buffett’s middle son. He is 71 years old. He dropped out of college three times. He drinks Dr Pepper and looks for a McDonald’s wherever he travels.
Since the beginning of the war, his foundation has become the largest private donor to Ukraine: $1.4 billion.
Over four years, he has personally visited Ukraine 27 times.
In April 2022, he saw burned-out agricultural machinery and called the president of John Deere:
“How many combines are available in Europe?”
“Fifteen. All of them were supposed to go to Russia.”
“I’ll take them all.”
Then came all the available New Holland equipment in Europe. Altogether, more than 100 tractors and combines were provided to Ukrainian farmers.
He even tested demining equipment himself - on his own farm in Illinois, detonating explosives beneath rollers. When a Ukrainian deputy minister expressed doubts, Buffett told him:
“Stop counting my tractors. If necessary, I’ll blow up a thousand of them.”
Andriy Stavnitser initially asked him for $1 million for Superhumans. Buffett asked how much was needed to build the entire center.
“$14 million.”
“Okay. And what do you expect in return?”
“Nothing. Build it.”
Today, his support for Superhumans has reached $77 million, and the center has treated more than 1,700 patients.
But his largest area of spending is neither agricultural machinery nor prosthetics.
It is food: 642 million meals.
And that is only part of it:
* 344,000 windows replaced after Russian attacks;
* 9 bridges, 4 power plants, 2,500 generators, and 18 DNA laboratories;
* Much of Bucha rebuilt with his funding.
“I already have more friends in Ukraine than I do at home,” he says.
He celebrates birthdays in Ukraine, comes for Christmas, and even has a Ukrainian godson.
Friends, this is truly a great man - someone who understands that he cannot take all his money with him when he leaves this world.
I simply want to thank him and wish him well.
Whatever else one may say, this is real help from a person who had no personal obligation to Ukraine.
He simply chose to help.

This spring, I became the owner of an old garden cottage near a forest in a quiet Ukrainian village outside Kyiv.
There was a very old, badly neglected apple tree on the property. It had not blossomed and was also badly obstructing the house. Everyone around me told me not to waste my time -- that the tree was dead after the winter frosts and would never produce anything again. Just hire someone and cut the damn thing down.
But I felt sorry for it. I cleaned it up as best I could and gave it whatever care I knew how to provide. And what do you know? It produced an absolutely enormous crop of apples, so many that I could practically hand them out to strangers in the strees.
And I swear, they are the most incredibly delicious apples I have ever tasted. Trust me. Nothing from a supermarket even comes close.
The moral of the story: sometimes, one should just have faith and care.
"Elezioni" in Russia: arrivano i primi dati dai seggi di Bogorodskoye.
Sezione n. 857 — il seggio era sotto il controllo degli osservatori ✅
Il candidato di Russia Unita Gusev ha perso, si trova addirittura al terzo posto:
Vladislav Gusev (Russia Unita) — 90
Yuliya Kuznetsova (Verdi) — 102
Georgij Fedorov (KPRF) — 125
Sezione n. 871 — l'osservatore non è stato ammesso al seggio 😡
Vladislav Gusev (Russia Unita) — 675
Yuliya Kuznetsova (Verdi) — 8
Georgij Fedorov (KPRF) — 24
Sono due sezioni adiacenti. Si trovano nella stessa scuola.
Sembra che ulteriori commenti siano superflui 🤡
Why do so many people think that if the Russians attack NATO, they will necessarily roll into Europe in gigantic armored columns like they did toward Kyiv in 2022 (and that this is therefore extremely unlikely now)?
They won’t fight a full-scale frontal war the way they have been fighting Ukraine for years.
They’ll do what they did in 2014: send another Igor Girkin from the FSB across the border with a detachment of armed saboteurs (a.k.a "the people’s militia," "rebels," or "separatists"), seize some town near the Russian border, activate pre-positioned local collaborators and former pyramid-scheme scammers (a.k.a. "people’s governors").
Some hypothetical “Rubicon,” operating without insignia, will provide them with drone support in armed clashes with the local police, National Guard, or counterterrorism forces, and they’ll start torturing and killing people undesirable in the territories they’ve seized (a.k.a. "the people's republic").
It goes without saying that the Russian propaganda machine will have no trouble finding a sensational TV story about yet another "crucified boy" at the hands of yet another "fascist punishers," vividly and convincingly demonstrating to Russian society and the international community that Russia has no choice but to intervene and protect its "compatriots."
And basically, that’s it -- just keep listening to Robert Fico’s screams about "some article 5," watch Western officials speak about the "unacceptability of escalation," call for "restraint," express concerns, and say that their capitals are "not prepared to unleash World War III for that."
Meanwhile, the tankies, of course, will be yelling about how the hypothetical "Tallinn junta" had been "bombing Narva for eight years."
And that could be it -- the effective end of NATO, and Europe being forcibly compelled into a suicidal betrayal of Ukraine and an end to aid.
Georgiy Gongadze: the anti-colonial legacy of a murdered Ukrainian reporter that shaped me into who i'm today and how his work from 25 years ago explains threats to our democracies more than you’d expect
We see once again, and for the umpteenth time, one of the consequences of putting the choice of leader, not to the caucus he or she will lead, but to a vote of -- well, i was going to say the membership, but it's not even the membership, but rather thousands and thousands of instant members, most of whom have had nothing to do with the party until voting day and will have nothing to do with it after. Time and again party caucuses are saddled with a leader who is repugnant to them, but who nevertheless has the power of life and death over their careers. Strange but true: the only people in Canada to whom the maxim "government with the consent of the governed" does not apply are the people we elect to represent us.
Oxford researchers just published a paper arguing LLMs cannot invent anything. Mathematically impossible.
The reason is simple and brutal. A model trained to predict the next word can never believe something the existing data says is wrong. And every real breakthrough in history started with exactly that belief.
In 1903 every prediction machine on Earth would have told the Wright Brothers that human flight was one to ten million years away. Nine weeks later they flew. Not because they had better data. Because they had a theory the data hadn't caught up to yet.
That is the gap between AI and human thinking. LLMs mirror the past. Humans reason into a future that doesn't exist yet. Oxford just proved mathematically that those are two different things.
I use these models every day. This matches what I see. The new stuff always comes from the human at the keyboard who decides the data is wrong.
LLMs don't think. You do.
