This is Colton. He started a fire at his house when he chewed through the battery pack of a lithium ion powered device. He's not the first dog who has done this, and he won't be the last, but unfortunately his dad is a firefighter, so it's probably going down as one of the most embarrassing instances. Please keep your battery packs stored safely out of reach of pets and kids, and don't worry about Colton. Only the rug was damaged, and we're still giving him a 12/10

Heads up! Tomorrow, June 4, expect smoky conditions during live burn training at an abandoned home on Old Durham Road.
During this training, you'll likely be able to see smoke from I-40, Fordham Blvd., and surrounding areas.
This training is weather-permitting.

Yesterday, in honor of National Injury Prevention Day, we visited UNC Children's Hospital with @NC_OSFM's Sparky the Fire Dog to promote injury prevention. We read Sparky's Story and had a great time raising awareness about how we can make a difference in reducing injuries.
#CHTraffic alert: give yourself extra time if your travels take you to or thru downtown via MLK tomorrow, 11/13. Contractors will mill, pave, & stripe the intersection at MLK/North/Columbia starting at 8 a.m. Traffic will be moving slower in both directions.
Thank you to Chris Cardwell, Curtis Johnson, Cade Michal, Bryan Pendleton, Ryan Warner, Will Jordan, Scott Rhew, Jeff Stevens, and Ben Batley, and Dennis Puckett for your service helping our neighbors in the western part of the state.
The day before Hurricane Helene hit, NC Task Force 8 was deployed to Haywood County in WNC. 4 waves of our folks went up in the next weeks.
🔵On day one, we made >25 water rescues.
🔵We mapped >4400 waypoints during wellness checks
🔵We dismantled and searched debris piles.
🚒October is Fire Prevention Month, a time when we raise fire safety awareness and educate folks about how to protect their homes and families.
👨🚒It’s important to start this education early. That’s why we have a special show to teach kids what to do in case of a fire. 👇
This week, we join organizations across the country in supporting Fire Prevention Week.
This year's theme from @NFPA encourages folks to install, test, and replace smoke alarms.
"Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!"

My guys have been on the ground since before the storm pushed through our mountains. We (NCTF8) were paired up with a team from Massachusetts. Before. The. Storm. Came. Through.
We're North Carolina. We're not going to forget about our folks. We're not political pawns either.

🧑🚒Yesterday we participated in the Tarrrr Heel Preparedness Festival at @UNC.
🔥We talked to students about fire safety, smoke alarms and evacuation plans. The biggest hit was @NC_OSFM's burn trailer, which shows how fire sprinklers reduce the risk of injury and loss of life!
