I did an interview yesterday and we were discussing the salary range. I accidentally gasped at what they were offering me because of how high it was and the hiring manager asked me if it was too low…… baby, immediately yes
Most conversations that we term as “difficult” are ppl attempting to tell their truth tactfully, gracefully and without upset. Extremely hard to do if that wasn’t common in your household and no one taught you how.
I often get the described as “clear, direct, assertive”etc. I don’t mind being described this way, especially as a coach. What people are picking up on is I tell the truth.

@taritapreston Yes! @KnowMoneySteve did this with me when I was looking for sponsors for @Elevate_Money last year and @AngelaEMatthews had to coach me through a panic attack when I had to pitch with numbers that were double what I was comfy with. They cut a check for MORE than I asked. Tribe.
this weekend I went on a girls trip. 10 Black women flying first class. People literally could not process how it was possible.
Staff tried to send us to regular lines. Passengers made snide remarks. One guy even yelled "are they a higher class of people than I am?!"
Stay mad.
Same goes for non profits run by women and POC who apply for grants. They always has for the bare minimum. I love the saying “let’s give them more money and tell them to dream bigger next time”
I told her that I want her to feel that she is fairly compensated every day that she has to log into work. I have seen (especially) women and particularly professional women of color underprice and devalue our work so much just to get our feet in the door.
