After spending about ten minutes looking in to DeviantArt’s new “Your stuff is in our AI database unless you opt out” and confusing methods to opt out - it’s just easier to nuke it all and get off DA completely. Not like I gained much on there, I guess.

@willi_brordus @AbyssalEros I'm no lawyer, but my understanding of contracts would be that they still have a right to those images as they were opted in. You'd have to re-upload the image to make it "new" and not subject to the TOS you agreed to follow by using the service. -

@willi_brordus Absolutely. Lots of people need Twitter or DA, and leaving those spaces is career suicide, I get it. I rarely got what I wanted from those spaces so losing them is meaningless to me. Updating them is a chore, and I'm not sad to lose another chore.

@willi_brordus @AbyssalEros That they opted everyone in with basically no warning tells me that they'll do it again, which is also why I nuked everything in there and haven't used it since. I barely trust any of them with the password to my account on their service.

@willi_brordus Which is extra steps I have to take when I can just prevent the stuff from being taken at all. But I'm also shit at self promotion and have no real metrics or gains from here, so I personally am losing nothing. I don't fault anyone for what they do - but I'm not gonna play ball.

@willi_brordus Honestly, no. I know people can just grab my shit, I can't stop it. What I can stop is agreeing to let a company take my shit without paying me. Like locking my door - I can't stop you from kicking it down, I can just make you kick it down first.
