Today In History - On April 7, 1803, Toussaint Louverture, one of the most significant political and military leaders of the Haitian revolution, died in a French prison, the Jura Mountains, far from his home country. He led the slave revolution in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, ultimately leading to the abolition of slavery and Haiti’s independence from French colonial rule. 🙌🏾🇭🇹
Today marks the anniversary of his death, commemorating his role as a revolutionary and advocate for human liberty.
